Lyrics

The Amateurs

Written By: Brett Millar

So the sun has set on this
It's water under a burning bridge
Well Audrey I was wondering
If you'd reconsider it
But you wave your hand
The way only you can
In full command
Of flight and wind and resistance
… Said: baby we were brilliant,

But we were, we were the amateurs
Not knowing what we‘d yet to learn
To learn from this weary world
That one goodbye, it taught me so well

Don’t say that we were fools
Building on a rolling hill
Wrestling with what was possible
Yes, I am wrestling still
Don’t say that we were doomed
The dreams that do or don't come true
It's circumstance and this world
That makes a lie of me and you
… Said: though we almost made it through

But we were, we were the amateurs
Not knowing what we‘d yet to learn
To learn from this weary world
That there's one goodbye, and you taught me so well

And so I… I’m on the lonely side
Of a thin drawn line, drawn right…
Right through us

And we were, we were the amateurs
Not knowing what we‘d yet to learn
To learn, that it's a weary world
That one goodbye, it taught me so well

Ontario

ONTARIO

Ontario, if I ever go
If I ever make it there, by water or wind
If I ever go, to Ontario
Well I'd love to see the edges and the centre of its spin
To be one who's been

Or could it be replaced what can't be repaired
Could you fill the space that she left, could you?

There's a clock on every wall, one automates the automatic door
And in the corner of the TV screen, on the phones and in the street
Clock faces everywhere as though we need reminding that they're
They're keeping time, but we're losing it my friend
It's slipping through our hands

Could it be returned all that's been removed
Could I ride the curve that bends on back to you, could you?

And so, where now? Cause their decision points on down
A path that can only end, in steep descent
Would the choosers change their mind had they been shown the warning signs?
Or will they scratch their heads and think 'ah that's what that meant'?
That it's slipping though our hands

Or could it be replaced what can't be repaired
Could you fill the space that she left...
Could it be returned all that's been removed
Could I ride the curve that bends on back to you, could you?
