Bio

Brett Stokes is a PostCynical NeoHippie singer songwriter guitarist.

Brett is committed to physical fitness and to being ready to perform his songs which express his life experiences and his PostCynical NeoHippie views including his love of dolphins and his gratitude and desire for freedom.

Brett is a veteran of the SA independent music scene, a pioneer of the guitarsynth solo as Om Man Rogue on the original South Australian compilation CD IndieSA Volume One in 1993, with post punk band Rebel Lion from 1995 to 2001, with The Outstanding Fines 2003 and with percussionist Costa from 2007 to 2009.

Rebel Lion played exclusively Brett Stokes original songs at many poorly attended gigs and released two CDs, the live CD "The Rebellion of 1996" which featured a unique 30 minute live recording of police defending the environment by acting with force against loud live music, and also "Love Is Real" recorded at SAE studios and released on GG Alan Bindig's Chastity Records in 1998.

Brett's first solo CD "Easy Love" was released in 2001, with part proceeds to the Australian Dolphin Research Foundation.

Brett tried ACDC cover band vocals for a while in 2004 with Diamond Jim, learning a lot about performance and song structures.

In recent times Brett has concentrated on his acoustic 8 string guitar and voice, trying to bring his original songs to a wider audience through the 2009 Fringe show All Nude Dolphin Love Energy with Costa, and also through Open Mic performances, as well as on the web (YouTube, FaceBook, MusicSA, MyMusicSite).

Now in 2010, Brett has added a SubOctave bass effect to his guitar sound, plus he has rediscovered his guitarsynth.

Brett is enjoying exploring the new full sound, with new songs on YouTube from live performances in November 2010 .

Brett has been a writer member of APRA since 1995.

Brett is a mathematician and was SA chess champion in 1972, taking up guitar after a high achievement (but low self esteem) youth and early adulthood, inspired by years of seeing and hearing great music, especially the musical Hair in Sydney in the spring of 1969, Jacques Loussier Trio Play Bach at Adelaide Festivals of The Arts in the 1960s, 1970s live bands like Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Split Enz, McKenzie Theory, Skyhooks, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Bryan Ferry, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Supertramp, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Dave Warner's From The Suburbs, Spectrum, Tamam Shud, Red Angel Panic, Fraternity, Gary Numan and Donovan ... plus recorded work by The Masters Apprentices, The Mamas and The Papas, The Fugs, Jefferson Starship, Cream, Blind Faith, Traffic, Steve Winwood, Fairport Convention, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Eno, King Crimson, Robert Fripp, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, David Bowie, Genesis, The Birds, The Band and Bob Dylan.
