Talisman (2010)

Brian Alan is an Austin based pop/rock singer and songwriter. Born in Houston, he grew up in nearby Brenham, Texas. When he took up guitar at age fourteen, no one in his family really played "more than the radio." And so it was the radio that first acquainted him with his formative influences, the sonic landscapes of British and American rock and pop. Closer to home, Brian's Texas music surroundings impressed upon him the compelling allure of vocal harmonies, and the endless resonance of a lyric in which not one syllable is carelessly penned. This melding of far and near, of energy and intimacy, pervades each track on his debut solo recording, "Talisman".

Produced by Mark Addison, "Talisman" was recorded at the Aerie Studio in Austin. Complementing Brian's strident tenor is Austin legend "Scrappy" Jud Newcomb on electric and gut-stringed guitars, Leslie McCurdy on electric bass, Rob Hooper on kit and percussion, with Addison himself weighing in on synth and piano. Additionally, renowned Austin producer/engineer Mark Hallman lent his own expertise to the final product, mastering it at his own Congress House Studios.

Writing songs about common experiences, Brian utilizes approachable themes more often than ideological wanderings. He feels that his work is a conversation with his audience about events that so often come to define our modern lives. As a performer he enjoys balancing his introspective songwriting personality with an extroverted self-expression. And now, with his first solo effort, "Talisman", Brian has realized a life long dream and has established his own unique sound.
