BIO: Brian BecVar

Brian BecVar is a multi-faceted artist who has explored both the worlds of music and the visual arts to communicate a very sensual style of storytelling through song and film. His first two cinematic creations, "Where Secrets Lie" and "Mirrors," are films in which the elements of musical underscore and visual movement play an equally important part in creating and telling a story. Exotic musical sounds and textures move in harmony with sensual images to massage and stimulate the viewer's imagination. The path that led Brian to the making of this film reveals his great love of diverse musical styles from around the world. Brian's musical experience in the early years was devoted to classical piano as well as original composition and song writing in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. During his college years at Duke University and Indiana University, Brian began to study and perform jazz, blues and latin music-studying with several great jazz and classical masters. One of those years of study was spent in Europe, where Brian performed a piano concerto with an orchestra on a tour across the continent and was exposed to music of many different cultures. Immediately after completing university study, Brian was hired to play piano in singer John Mellencamp's band, located in Bloomingtin, Indiana. Brian's work with Mellencamp was the first in a long list of concert tours with major recording artists in the 80's and 90's that led to travel throughout the USA, Europe, South America, Australia, Africa and Asia. During that time, Brian relocated his home base to Miami, New Year City and, finally, Los Angeles. Between 1978 and 2005, Brian toured, composed and recorded with Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Kenny Loggins, Air Supply, John Anderson (Yes), Kitaro, Roberta Flack, Bobby Caldwell, Wild Cherry, Laura Branigan, Cheryl Lynn, and Tim Weisberg. His travel through these years exposed Brian to a very diverse array of ethnic musical styles. His songs were eventually recorded and released by Roberta Flack, John Mellencamp, Laura Branigan, Bobby Caldwell and Cheryl Lynn. During the late 90's, Brian began to focus his energies on his own original work--developing a state-of-the-art studio at his home in Los Angeles. In addition to building an extensive digital audio production studio, Brian began to study great films from different cultures. His interest in composing music for film led to numerous meetings with prominent film directors and composers. One notable experience occured over several days spent with director Oliver Stone and Japanese recording artist Kitaro at the orchestral recording sessions for the film, "Heaven and Earth," in Warner Bros. main sound stage. Over the next few years, Brian then scored four independent films, which were submitted and screened at film festivals around the world. Brian's focus and intention with film underscore has always been to contribute a sound and style that flows intimately with the visual action in telling the story. And his exposure to cultures in Asia, Europe, Latin Amerca and Africa led Brian to create exotic scores that graced the films with which he worked. In the year 2000, with the explosion of the internet and digital film making, Brian formed a company for creating and distributing his own music and films. He established Adagio Films, Inc. which is devoted to producing films of the highest integrity and artistic value--films which incorporate musical and cinematic styles from many diverse cultures and which inspire and enchant all those who experience them. With that in mind, Brian wrote, directed, and scored his first original film, "Where Secrets Lie," which was filmed on a beautiful, exotic island near the pacific coast of North America and is the first release from Adagio Films. Brian completed his second original cinematic work, entitled "Mirrors," which was filmed in the Califonia desert, and was released in 2002. Exotic musical undescore, natural lighting and a sensual film look have been high priorities in Brian's film making process. And the focus of his work will continue to be that of combining the elements of lush musical landscapes and fluid visual movement equally to tell a very human story.
