Brian Chartrand's "I'll Take It With Me" is an eight-song solo EP of pop tunes recorded live to tape with no overdubs. While some of the songs on this disc were recently released on a somewhat poorly recorded live CD by Chartrand's group Ten Dollar Outfit, the mix here is easier to decipher in terms of lyrics and guitar nuances and this plays to the songwriter's strengths. Chartrand is a fine acoustic guitarist, employing a variety of chord voicings to spread around his sound, and uses percussive slaps on the six string's body to add rhythmic balance to such songs as "Another Lover" and "Genuine Leather." The best tunes here, such as "Lucky Number," "What's Come Over Me" and "UFO" are breathy, strummed songs that emphasize Chartrand's engaging tenor and lush playing. The term singer/songwriter nowadays brings to mind artists such as John Mayer, which is unfortunate for musicians like Chartrand, whose stuff is better. - Chris Hansen Orf : Get Out Magazine

Bio
Brian Chartrand is a product of his upbringing. In seventh grade on a family vacation to Vermont, Brian's older brother introduced him to be-bop. Shortly thereafter, Brian was introduced to Steely Dan which quickly became the measure for greatness. In 1994, during a year-long trip to Germany, Brian saw Jeff Buckley's video for "Last Goodbye." This chance encounter had a profound effect on Brian's singing and songwriting. More recent influences include Radiohead, Coldplay, Ben Harper, Nick Drake, and most recently Amos Lee.
