Biography

Brian Gordon presents songs that tell stories of every day life, and every day people. Dubbed as acoustic roots with pseudo-celtic tendencies, inspired by such Canadian songwriting legends as Spirit of The West, Grapes of Wrath, The Waltons and the Skydiggers; as well as the distinct sounds of his musical mentors The Water Walk, River Detectives and The Housemartins, Brian's songs have the timeless ability to communicate as only folk music does.

Brian was been asked to perform at the pre-cruise launch party for the Barenaked Ladies' annual concert cruise, "Ships & Dip". Brian has performed several shows with John Mann, frontman and songwriter for Spirit of The West, as well as shows with Chris Trapper (of the Push Stars), and Dave Carroll (of Sons of Maxwell). Brian is currently recording with award-winning producer, Timothy Abraham.

Lyrics

Television

Written By: Brian Gordon

Turned on the television this morning
Heard about the bombs that fell and brought division and mourning
All the stories on the tv and the radio
They say it's good to stay informed, ya, well I just don't know about that
When it's like this
It's like a suckerpunch to the mouth, when all I wanted was a kiss

What I'm trying to say is,
Bad news seems to spread so fast
Until it's everywhere
Every morning I wake to another headline
And every morning I swear
That I'll never wake again
Until the morning news ends...

Got in my car to head to work, turned on the radio station
Heard about the latest soldier to die for our great nation
Well I listen every day and the truth is it never
Seems to improve or in anyway get better at all
Not by a mile
It's like a violent slew of insults when all I wanted was a smile

What I'm trying to say is,
Bad news seems to spread so fast
Until it's everywhere
Every morning I wake to another headline
And every morning I swear
That I'll never wake again
Until the morning news ends...

I'm not supporting ignorance
I'm not supporting niavity
I'm not promoting censorship
All I'm trying to say is,
Why can't we wake up to see life another way
Even for just one day

I've got two children who watch the news each morning
And on the one hand I'm happy that they got their feet in the real world
But on the other hand, I wish they'd turn on the cartoons

More To Life

Written By: Brian Gordon

Went for a walk down my quiet street early in the morning
Saw a lot of people who looked just like me early in the morning
I didn’t recognize a single face, early in the morning
That’s because the rest of the day, we are go our own way

Today I’ll take my business and throw it by the wayside
Today I’ll take my time and throw it to the wind
Today I realize, there so much more to life
If I just let it in

No matter where I go or what I do, I’m always thinking bout the next thing
Its like the daytimer rules my day and tells me I should think
So hard to break from what I know, this sand that’s quickly sinking
And I won’t let the rest of my days, won’t let them stand in my way

Today I’ll take my business and throw it by the wayside
Today I’ll take my time and throw it to the wind
Today I’ll take my caution and throw it to the heavens
Today I’m moving ahead, away from where I’ve been
Today I realize, there so much more to life
If I just let it in
