Bio

.......BRIAN LEE WATSON.."Bringing back real music"........A guitar based interesting mix of original foot tapping folk rock style infused with acoustic rhythm and slamming blues rock........ I was born in WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND. When I was about twelve years old, I was given a full size YAMAHA guitar by my uncle Robert .Being a full sized classical guitar with a neck the size of a 2"by 4" ,I struggled to get my fingers onto the fret board but managed to master the big beast .By the time I got to high school, I was in demand to show my guitar skills off especially to the girls. At fifteen I bought my first electric guitar which was a semi hollow jazz/ blues with two humbuckers. I paid so much for the guitar and amp, I didn't have enough money for the speaker cabinet, and so I just brought a twelve inch speaker with no cabinet and thought I could build a speaker cabinet at home. The speaker cabinet never got built so used to cart my guitar and amp around with my lone speaker in tow with a bit of wire through the mounting holes and by this time, bits of the cone was missing so I had a distortion sound without a pedal, I busked and played at numerous parties until it all went missing somewhere. Through the seventies I played in numerous bands and toured the pub circuit, had an absolute ball…Used to play drunk,,,(as most of us did) fall of the stage and patrons would stand me back up again....Had a beautiful black GIBSON those days and it survived well...Oh such a good time had by all..I remember trying to pen some music but couldn't and I guess the time wasn't right. I had a break in playing live music through the eighties, and raised a family ... In the nineties I went back performing live as a solo performer, playing mostly acoustic guitar at small bars and then I went to vocal coach MAUREEN SHAW CARNIE in Auckland N.Z. for a spell to knock my singing voice into better shape .I then started performing ROD STEWART shows in New Zealand and Australia and really enjoyed it. But the urge to write my own material become stronger. The unique journey of life so far has enabled me to put pen to paper and write my own music so gradually started to mix my set lists with covers and originals. I write my music on my life stories so every song is a part of me and my journey of life so far. I shifted to REDCLIFFE, a beautiful city on the coast 30 mins north of Brisbane, QUEENSLAND, the sunshine state of AUSTRALIA in the year 2003 and am enjoying the beautiful life style that Queensland has to offer. I am writing music more than ever and enjoy performing in small intimate bars and restaurants as well as going for it with a full band...WMA write up 2006. "Brian lee Watson from NZ played a few of his originals and was a very smooth and confident performer. We were all impressed with his style and skills”. I am now being taught piano by a local music teacher here in Brisbane,'JOAN WILKIE'and she teaches music with a passion.... Xmas 2006, myself and "TOMMY “ on bass, performed in the main street of REDCLIFFE for the shop owners association, magic place with a backdrop of sparkling Morton bay. We were joined by none other than "MIKE GOLDMAN", T.V. host and producer as M.C. for the night. We threw a guitar at him and he played a few numbers with us. Most enjoyable night….My favourite Gigs are intimate bars and cafe’s with me playing guitar and harp and not a laptop or midi file in sight…How real is that … I entered a song contest last year and "SWEET SEDUCTION" won a place, not world beating but at least something. Mind you it is a beautiful song… Met blues guitarist “DEAN HAITANI” at an APRA meeting one night and he is a fine friend to know...He is also world class as a blues guitar player and I am proud to have him play lead guitar on my blues tracks.”FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN “and “JUST ONE MORE TIME”.. Four albums being recorded at the moment (how did that happen ? eek !)”Fetch me a dream” and “Stir me slowly blues “ , Due for release later this year ........
