"Brian Lynn Jones & the Misfit Cowboys, 'Nowhere To Be Found' CD review"

Brian has a quote on his website (www.brianlynnjones.com) that sums him up perfectly - “Beware of the tall dark stranger when he
comes through your town.” If this CD was my only connection to
his music, that statement would be true, but having also seen Brian
in concert, it applies even more. The music of Brian & the Cowboys
is a combination of country, swing, rock and fun. It is the kind of CD
you listen to over and over again, only to find something different each time. From the opening chords of One Way In (No Way Out), this CD shows music that BELONGS on the player of all true country fans and proves that this band should be on a major label. I particularly like Rainin’, If I Was Elvis and (I’m Getting Used To) Sleepin’ Alone, but truth be told, there’s not a bad track on this CD! Everything you could ask for – from fast to slow – is covered here. As far as I’m concerned, this band has the goods and could easily compete in today’s Nashville - I’d love to see them play a gig with Danni Leigh and Dwight Yoakum - at the Crystal Palace! By all means - get this CD - listen to it and you’ll see – Brian Lynn Jones and his Cowboys are NOBODY’s misfits!

Bio

"ROCK ‘N’ TONK COUNTRY"
Brian Lynn Jones and the Misfit Cowboys are a second to none, high energy, fun times, rockin’ honky-tonk original country music act (hence the term rock ‘n’ tonk country). The band consists of local eclectic professional musicians from the Orange County/Los Angeles area, as well as members of the country band ‘Due West’. The members are: B. L. Jones (lead vocals and acoustic/electric guitar), Steve Jerand (drums, percussion), Kirk Browne (lead/rhythm guitar, fiddle, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Jack Crosby ( lead/rhythm guitars, baritone guitars, vocals), Gary Krolak ( bass, backing vocals), and Greg Rutledge (piano, organ, accordion, vocals). Combined or alone these musicians have played with and for a plethora of famous artists such as, Johnny Lee, Clint Black, Patty Loveless, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Bo Diddley, Jeff Beck, etc… The list could go on and on, but, we’ll let the music speak for itself!

As an original act, you will be delighted and entertained with their live performance, from the inspiring musicianship, to the witty original songwriting from their current CD release “Nowhere To Be Found”. Several cuts from the CD have been in the Top 10 radio playlist in Germany, Australia and Holland to name a few. “Smoke & Fire’ and ‘Complete’ (songs from the CD) have been in the #1 position on countless internet radio stations. The cut ‘(Don’t Come Back) Cryin’ To Me’ was featured for a week on the daytime soap opera ‘All My Children’ as well as the “indie” film ‘The Living Testament Of Larry Daryl’. They have headlined at festivals, fairs, rodeos and have opened for such acts as Merle Haggard, David Ball, Dale Watson, Allison Moorer, Gary Morris, Asleep At The Wheel, Ty Herndon, Blackhawk, Freddy Fender and more. A few times they have outsold the headliner! All of these reasons, plus too many more to mention, could be the reason theses boys won “Best Country Band Of 2004” at the Orange County Music Awards this past April as well as Colgate Country Showdown California State Champions for 2004.

As a honky-tonk, party country cover band, there is no equal around these here parts. If you have a place in your heart for good old country music with a fresh new edge, this is the band for you!! From Hank Sr., Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson to Dwight Yoakam and everything in between, they‘ll have you tappin’ your toes, slappin’ your knee, just achin’ to get up and boot-scoot! So, sit back, grab a cool one, and buckle-up, or, grab your darlin’ and hit the dance floor. Either way, these boys come to play!! So, Cowboy up, and enjoy the ride!!!

Brian Lynn Jones is a country boy from Oklahoma. Singing since he could talk, music has always been an important part of Brian's life. He grew up listening to a vast array of music, with country being his family's favorite. A steady diet of George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Rich, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, Charlie Pride, David Allen Coe, and Glen Campbell as well as rock and pop artists, Bruce Springsteen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, The Pretenders, REO Speedwagon, The Who, and of course Elvis Presley amongst countless others, filled the airwaves in his family's home and cars.

Starting with the piano and trombone, a bass and guitar finally became the love of his life. You can feel his soul in his bass lines and in his music.

As a lad in Oklahoma, Brian played in numerous bands, often composing many of the original songs himself. By the age of 16, he was in the number one band in Oklahoma, as voted by JAM Magazine. The two years following brought the same accolades with his follow-up bands. Yearning for greener pastures, Brian moved to Southern California, where he has been entertaining ever since. Ever the performer, the year 2000 found Brian traveling the country with the Radio Disney Band, and the self penned 'Don't Come Back Cryin' To Me' on the popular daytime soap All My Children. Not too shabby!

He is ever the free spirit, and always up for a good/wild time. He is neither Angel nor Devil, but wears his halo somewhere around his waist like a belt. He is a good man with a boy's sense of wonder and awe at the world and life around him. Taking it all in to create the music he does.

Jack Crosby has been picking and twanging his guitar for many years. He has been involved in numerous cover and original bands since the '70s. His early influences were blues and surf music and more recently, country.

Steve Jerand has been behind the drums for 35 years with many artists such as Jeff Beck and Johnny Lee. He is known best for his absolutely flawless drumming and rock-solid meter. His prowess is most likely attributed to a strong musical family background dating back to his grandfather Gabe McDowell who was actually a member of Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys.
