"This Just In"

This just in...literally! [McCarthy] touches those roads Joshua Redman travels on with a fresh footing. This band excels at building anticipation, Justin Kauflin on piano is one to watch, exciting. - All About Jazz

""Flood Gates" Review"

Very lyrical piece. Straight ahead jazz with a clear voice and solid playing. Alto has plenty of fire without surrendering its lighter touch. Nice tune. Jazz from the Vermont scene. - All About Jazz

Bio

An accomplished performer and formidable composer/arranger, this young saxophonist is emerging as a prominent example of the modern day instrumentalist. Over the years, Brian has shared the stage with Clark Terry, Paquito D'Rivera, The Temptations, Mulgrew Miller and Joe Locke. As an arranger, he has generated sheet music for bands such as Guster, Mike Gordon, Melvin Sparks and Trey Anastasio. Seven Days called him plainly "…a staple of the New England jazz scene." All About Jazz says his 2013 release, This Just In, "[McCarthy] touches those roads Joshua Redman travels on with a fresh footing." As a sideman, McCarthy can also be found performing regularly with Ray Vega's Quintet and Burlington’s longtime funk establishment, The Grippo Funk Band. He is a jazz faculty member at St. Michael’s College, the University of Vermont and Johnson State College
