"Brian Randle and Southern Justice"

Atlanta Bar & Grill, located at 202 W Main in Downtown Tupelo, MS, was definitely the place to be last night – Saturday, February 18, 2012. There wasn't an empty seat in the house. Truthfully, it's way too small if plans are to continue to book bands such as this one, but it was definitely the hottest bar in town & absolutely the place to be. Other places around town were not even playing in the same ballpark last night. Atlanta Bar and Grill is owned by Dr Maurice Clark (20/20 Vision, Tupelo) and hosts an extremely diverse crowd – all ages, races and social statuses. There was no cover and the drinks were reasonably priced. The bartenders were a bit slow, but the place was -- as I said -- packed.

Last night's band was Brian Randle and Southern Justice. The music could be heard from about 1/8 mile down the street and at first impression, BRSJ seemed to be a country band, however after the beginning of their second set, it was clear that this band could successfully cover any artist or band they so desired – Journey, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Georgia Satellites, Classic Rock to the country sounds of George Strait & Kenny Chesney. It was quite a shock to hear a band of their caliber performing in Tupelo. This is the type of band that one expects to hear on 6th Street in Austin, Texas or Richmond Avenue in Houston, but not in Tupelo, Mississippi. Again, it was a bit of a shock – of the good variety.

Brian Randle and Southern Justice is on the way up and a band that no music lover will want to miss. Go out and hear them – they're definitely worth the price of admission.

In this column, readers can expect to be kept apprised weekly of bands and artists that should be patronized in Tupelo and the surrounding area – when and where they'll be performing and whether or not they're worth the price of admission.
