"Brian Severn and Those Victorious"

Brian Severn and Those Victorious - The Wonderboy E.P. - CD
(BDS Music) Elvis Costello‘s nerdy younger brother? (Or I guess at this point possibly his son?) Yeah, that’s saying a lot. Hearing the title track “Steady Set Ready Now” I get the image of a really weedy nerd trying to act and sound like a bad ass. It’s not like the lyrics are acting tough, it’s just the inflection in the vocals. Overall their music is somewhere in the realm of Toad the Wet Sprocket or Dishwalla, really great, melodic college rock with plenty of hooks. It’s just that the vocals rise to the top and the singer has a bit of nerdcore to his voice similar to the male singer from Baby Calendar or the aforementioned Elvis Costello. Overall a nice introduction to the band, I’m not hooked, but I am looking forward to their next release.

"Brian Severn and Those Victorious"

Brian Severn & Those Victorious – Wonderboy
2007, BDS Music, LLC

From a young age, Brian Severn knew what he had to do: Write catchy pop/rock songs with melodies that invade your brain and stay for days after the CD stops playing. Brian Severn & Those Victorious’ debut EP, Wonderboy, is full of them. The Frederick, Maryland based quartet is working hard to make sure these songs get heard, touring currently in the northeast US to support this release.

Wonderboy is at once both upbeat and introspective. Drawing on personal experiences, Severn displays an ability to write great uplifting pop songs that support thoughtful lyrics. Paddy Mayonnaise and Chris “Playboy” Martin make up the impressive rhythm section, and Brian “Briany Tiny Hands” Tessier chips in on guitar and backing vocals to help Severn complete his musical vision.

Steady Set Ready Now is radio-ready right now. This is the sort of pop song that could catch on in Alternative formats and be a minor hit – the sort that gets a band noticed by the majors as well as a good core group of fans. Dumbfound, On Love, The Glory Days, and Crazy round out the set, all great, listenable songs. Wonderboy is a very promising debut from Brian Seven & Those Victorious. Check this out. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Bio

Hailing from Frederick, Maryland, “Brian Severn & Those Victorious” are quickly proving to be tenacious self starters. Writing and performing highly melodic compositions with emotionally intelligent lyrics and big catchy hooks, it’s evident that their inspiration comes from within. The band which began as a solo acoustic project featuring Brian Severn has grown into a solid song-oriented powerhouse. Brian began playing guitar at age 10 and started writing and performing by age 12. After watching Green Day’s Woodstock Performance on television he knew instinctively what he had to do. The band features Brian Severn on guitar and lead vocal, with Paddy Mayonnaise on drums/percussion, and Chris "Playboy" Martin on bass.

Inspired by, and exhibiting a sound in the vein of artists such as Green Day, Everclear, GlassJaw, Alkaline Trio, and Tom Petty, the band has recently completed their second EP produced by Grammy™nominated engineer/producer David Ivory (The Roots, Halestorm, Silvertide, Patti LaBelle). Brian Severn & Those Victorious is dead serious in the quest to create awareness for their project.

Continuing to seek guidance from David Ivory and engaging Artist Management and Music Marketing firm Allure Media Entertainment, Philadelphia, PA to assist in the furtherance of their career, the band seems destined for Independent Success. Their second EP entitled “Wonderboy”, officially released in February 2008, is now available online at their websitewww.thosevictorious.com, Best Buy, and digitally on iTunes. The band has begun touring extensively in support of their new release and is heading back into the studio in mid 2009 to record a new single with the assistance of producer David Ivory.
