Brian Shovelton

Brian Shovelton

BandBluesAcoustic

Not your typical "sensitive" singer songwriter. I combine rock, blues, and outlaw country, combining covers and originals into my own original style. I provide a high energy acoustic show that can provide music for most any venue or occasion. Over 20 years experience lends credibility to my show.

Biography

I began playing clubs and coffeehouses when I was fifteen and have been playing professionally for 20 years. Through my solo act and with my electric power trio, "Herbal Remedy", I have played across the country and have been well received in the New England area lately. I try to keep my set high energy and fairly eclectic merging styles like blues, rock, folk, and outlaw country. I play both oiginals and covers and have been collaborating with several artists in the area boh live and in the studio.

Lack of Freedom

Written By: Brian Shovelton

Can't you see the trouble we're in?
When will we start to begin
Can we make them see?
There's a choice for you and me

Now I don't think the same
Now I don't play their game
Now my life is base on truth
The policy of the rising youth

The races fight, what causes the rift
I thought peace was a right not a gift
Killing people for religion or race
Take the time to look beyond their face

And then we have our men in blue
Police state telling you what to do
They'll take your land and your children from you
Just for growing a plant or two

Don't you feel a lack of freedom?
A little less is there each day
Can't you feel a lack of freedom in the air?
Can't you see it slip away?

The government takes most of your money
The poor go cold and the cold go hungry
The politicians hide behind their lies
And they'll never look you in the eye

And during times of trouble and strife
They'll send your children off to die
They tell us that our freedom's at risk
It doesn't matter cause we never really had it

Don't you feel a lack of freedom
A little less is there each day
Can't you feel a lack of freedom, in the air?
Can't you see it slip away?

So now it's time to lend a hand
Open a mind whenever you can
Invest your life in humanity
Help your brother so we all will see
That it's time for revolution
There's no need for this mass confusion
Let the love that surrounds you grow
Breathe it in and purify your soul

Don't you feel a lack of freedom?
A little less is there each day
Can't you feel a lack of freedom in the air?
Can't you see it slip away?

Woman On My Mind

Written By: Brian Shovelton

Open rolling and I wake to midwest sun
Shaking off the memories of why I'm on the run
Salt flats are speeding by, the bullet leaves the gun
And I'm wounded on open road

All my possessions are strapped across my back
My guitar plays the train, rolling thunder don the track
My habit and my memories are always on my back
And I'm wounded on open road

The towns roll by, another empty promise
The road goes on forever in my mind
The darkness seems to close in around me
Cause I can't get you woman off my mind

I left it all behind, my family and my friends
Sold all my possessions, I was running for the end
Hopping trains and plains, it was the diesel caravan
And I was wounded, on open road

Mission bell and brownstone, Denver running veins are done
Utah Monday morning, in a hotel on the run
Dead on Rio Grande at the setting of the sun
I was wounded on open road

The towns roll by, another empty promise
The road goes on forever in my mind
The darkness seems to close in around me
Cause I can't get you woman off my mind

Can you hear me caling lady?
Tonight I'm coming home to you
One more night without you lady
One more night and I'll be through
Cracked and bleeding highway, I stumble at the gate
Music crying in my mind, it's what the needle takes
Words are pouring out of me, a Greyhound bus mistake
And I'm wounded on open road

Back to the start now, China keeps me on my knees
There's nothing more to take from me, I'm begging darling please
Sunset's now upon us, won't you wait once more for me
Don't leave me wounded on open road

The towns roll by, another empty promise
The road goes on forever in my mind
The darkness seems to close in around me
Cause I can't get you woman off my mind

Failure Blues

Written By: Brian Shovelton

You gots a big old weakness baby
You wear it lke your Sunday best
You gots a big old weakness baby
You wear it like your Sunday best
Oh yeah you thin you special baby
But you just like all the rest

I see a big chip on your shoulder
How do you move beneath the weight
I see a big chip on your shoulder
How do you move beneath the weight
Yeah you think the wold owes you something
Cause you're in such a sorry state

What happened to you baby
To make you act the way you do
Oh yeah what happened to you baby
To make you act the way you do
When did it all become too much
When did it all come down on you

Well you cry, you scream, you burden us all
With all your whining now
You think I'll break my back for you
But that I won't allow
You wait around for things to change
But there's no end in sight
Yeah hings can't ever change my dear
If you do the same thing every night

So you dive into a bottle
You tear yourself up day and night
Yeah you dive into a bottle
You tear yourself up day and night
You think it helps you baby
But you've forgotten how to fight

Yeah the world don't owe you nothing
You gots to make it on your own
Yeah the world don't owe you nothing
You gots to make it on your own
And if you an't understand that darlin'
You gonna wind up all alone
