briansongs is the recording and performance vehicle for Brian Wright.

Raised in the NC mountains, Brian has played various styles over the years, yet always stayed with the acoustic guitar as the primary writing vehicle and core performance medium.

"You know, it was always the acoustic stuff," remembers Brian. "Even when I was playing in rock and metal bands, its like I had this secret life, writing stuff that fit better at the coffeehouse than at the clubs we played."

"Growing up, I went from country gospel to Elvis, to Zeppelin, Kiss, and yes, even some of the 80's hair metal, but underneath all that I was digging James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, and then later on, people like Mary Chapin Carpenter, and the Indigo Girls, who demonstrated that acoustic guitar could be the most powerful instrument on the earth, and of course, David Wilcox, who really blew me away with alt tunings and cut capos, that, and the fact that he got started in my hometown of Asheville really got me."

"I think what I'm trying to capture musically is the emotion and memory of life and love against the backdrop of a clear, cold October sky stretched across the fiery autumn color of those Appalachian Mountains that I have always been so enamored of."

Brian's warm, rich and resonant acoustic guitar work illuminates his lyrics and stories from classic singer-songwriter themes of life, love, loss, and pain, to alt-country tales of 21st century post-modern life and angst.

In describing this range of directions, Brian said, "I was hanging out with some friends way up in the mountains once, years ago,and as we sat around a fire in the woods, I was doing a few songs and this girl
says to me, 'You know, you seem to have the words for everyone, what everyone wants to say about what they're feeling.' Regardless of the style of a particular song, what she said is exactly what I'm shooting for."
