BandAlternativeAdult Contemporary

An eclectic group of musicians from Far North Queensland Australia brought together by fate, and a difficulty in saying "No" to songwriter Brad McKenna.

Biography

A decade ago in North Queensland a tremendous cyclone cut a path of destruction and isolated two strangers on a flood bound road. Max Perkin was a professional drummer, Brad Mckenna a teacher on way to a posting. Thus began the Collective.
Keen to record original music, they were soon joined by a behemoth of a man bearing not only a trombone and a Conservatorium of Music education, but also a swag of “Freak Brothers” comics and a permanent gig with popular Cairns band, “The Swinging Alley Cats”. Thus the Collective began to collect.
A stint as a radio announcer on a community radio station brought Brad in contact with a golden voiced duo named Tim and Geri Borella playing live as the band Sonic Bloom.
The second song on this demo also features the masterful piano playing of our friend Mr. Mark Mannock, piano player extraordinaire.
This recent collaboration immediately bore fruit and is an ongoing cooperative devoted to writing and recording our individual impressions, snapshots of the society in which we live. To be able to afford to produce these as CD quality commercial recordings is certainly a major aim!!!

Midlands

Written By: Brad McKenna

Midland
There’s a man marking time as he walks to the back of the line to put his money in a big machine
And the girls with the phone don’t care and they leave him alone
‘Cause they’re going to the city Midland 9:17
While the lady dressed in her smartest clothes
Trying to find the best face to pose
So she won’t expose
I press to the glass as the people get on and on all around me
We all look ahead or inside where the sun
Doesn’t fade if you don’t want it to
The man in the corner‘s always there
He tries hard not to see you and you try not to stare or care
Cause you don’t have to
Outside a little baby looks around and starts to make small sounds
And everyone stops being worried for a short time

The parking man’s eyes follow fragments of smoke that drift up to blue windows
Down near the ferry where the clock tower chimes that it’s time for this or that
Raises a hand up so bright and clean
He said I’m giving in
So which way to win?
Let’s go together!
She dances past him faking, shaking in the midday gloom
Gives him some room and laughs at looks
Whatever
The man in the bad shirt has to sneeze and cough as people try not to breathe him in before they can all get off ...
To all their places ...............

Each Wasted Day

Written By: Brad McKenna

Is it any wonder that I closed my eyes and fell into the corner?
And is it any wonder when you hold my arms my face has nothing left to say?
But it feels like each wasted day falls away from me here, to see you free
And it seems, like, each perfect day gets that way
The moment that I held you and I felled you and I saw..
Crying, for all of the time
Swirling round us for a moment
passes smiling on by
And the ripples in the currents shake us gently side to side and there's rocks below to catch us...
But it feels like each wasted day falls away from me here, to see you free.
And it seems, like, each perfect day gets that way
The moment that I saw you walking through my door.
Come and see the photo of us that I found while cleaning out some boxes
You had climbed upon a slide I gazed up at you thinking what a hero...
But you were just my brother who knew far too much and
ran too fast and didnt look behind him....
And it feels like each wasted day falls away from me here, to see you free.
And it seems, like, each perfect day gets that way
The moment that I see you walking through my door......

Sentry

Sentry

Last night I had a dark dream about you baby
And I thought that I was losing you
And all the fears came rushing back of waking up and telling you a story after story till they just don’t have a meaning
Walking by a stream in a crazy conversation
That the world was trying to drown us in a sea of information
I’d like to see you later smile with you say how’s it going
I’m a vacancy are you missing me or want me or something?

I’m always laughing; I’m always crying with you my love
I’m always laughing; I’m always crying with you my love

There’s a song I like to play when I see you looking round
I pretend that you choose me even when my mind has gone to ground
A million other questions that I know you’ll never answer and the most important of them is will you or won’t you?
I’m always laughing; I’m always crying with you my love
I’m always laughing; I’m always crying with you my love
