"Somewhere out there..."

With the release of Lady Gagas ‘Born this Way’ and my Spotify finally letting me listen for more than 20 hours each session I decided it was time to celebrate with my first music review. Now I’ve been putting it off for a while because I wanted to give the song the credit it deserves and despite being a radio journalism student with some decent knowledge of the airwaves my playlists are something only drunk Dad’s at a disco would dance to….but this time, I think I’ve found a winner.

Bright Light Syndrome is the stage name of George Ince, a 21 year old singer songwriter and record producer who is currently based in Leeds. His music takes influence from Soft Rock, Pop and Electronic music and all his songs are complete with catchy vocals that combine with a background of strings and rich harmonies.

‘I didn’t cry for a long, long time. I thought there was, something wrong with me’ are my favourite lyrics from the song ‘Somewhere out there’ which is slowly becoming the most played on my i-tunes, creeping up behind The Vaccines and Everything Everything – what does that tell you….

His vocal range is unbelievable and it’s hard to believe that it’s the product of one person. When you listen to it, on Valentines day of all days, it’s easy to picture it being a top tune of 2011. It’s only February and I already know I’ll be playing it all year from lying on the beach sunbathing, to crying at the lack of card’s the postman will deliver this time next year. The lyrics are open and honest and match perfectly to the tone and style of the whole song.

After one too many youtube listens I’m already considering it the ‘Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition’ of this Summer and can’t wait to hear more from Bright Light Syndrome.

Drunks, dads and discos can stay away form this one, but as for the rest of you, have a listen, I promise you won’t be disappointed. - Francine Jordan. Wordpress.

Bio

Bright Light Syndrome began as the brainchild of George Ince, a 22yr old singer/songwriter and record producer. Moving to Leeds in 2008, George performed as a solo artist around the city and soon had airplay for 3 of his songs on BBC Radio's West Yorkshire’s Raw Talent. Craving a bigger sound from his live performances, George began looking for like minded musicians to form a band with.

Several line up changes and a few awkward auditions down the road, George has brought together a group of talented musicians, all of whom share in his vision and ambition for BLS. Joining George on stage are Josh Wilding on lead guitar, Aaron Stanton on bass and Richard Pilkington on drums. Despite forming in early 2011, BLS have already got people talking north and south, with some big gigs set for the summer.

Just three months down the line and these boys have their debut EP on its way and can’t wait to get stuck into a summer packed full of gigs and performances up and down the UK! Watch this space…
