Biography

I grew up singing, but only recently started songwriting and have loved the process of creating new work. As a solo singer, it was hard for me to know how to share my music... enter my good friend and bassist Matt Perez. During the winter of 2009, Matt and I spent a lot of time in my kitchen up in Maine playing around with a solo bass/voice duo, and after we'd worked out a few of the songs we began taking them to a local open mic. We called our project "His Girl Friday," and got some great & enthusiastic feedback. Gradually over the course of the summer, we put together a small group so we could record a demo of the songs and play a few gigs. We loved our experience and time together, but each of us had other responsibilities that called us elsewhere. So I find myself now in NYC, looking for other musicians to collaborate with and hoping to grow as a singer/songwriter.

Sometime Friend

Written By: Britt Sondreal

Sometime Friend

You’ve closed your door, shut all the windows
Dimmed the lights, though one still shines
You won’t hear what I have to say,
So I will sing it at your gate and walk away

(Chorus)
We grew a garden that we could not tend
We sang a song that never found an end
Oh, my brother from another life,
My sometime friend
This is your letter I will never send

I wanted to hold you forever
Walk with you every slow step of the way
But your feet needed to wander
And while I tried I knew I couldn’t make you stay

Chorus

I’ll always keep a little part
Of the way you touched me hidden in my heart
And on a still night you may hear me pray
For our God to bless and keep you through your dying day

Chorus

Honky Tonky

Written By: Britt Sondreal

honky tonky

V. I
when cabin fever can’t be beat
and home sweet home don’t feel so sweet
lookin’ for a place to generate some heat
i know a spot i can save you seat

CHORUS
honky tonky & boom-shake-a-boom
throw on your overcoat and leave your room
follow me while the snow’s comin’ down
we’ll find a tin pan alley in this dead-end town

honky tonk & boom-shake-a-boom
dust off your lazy bones and leave your room
follow me while the snow’s comin’ down
we’ll find a tin pan alley in this dead-end town

V.II
when that dark night is feeling grim
and those 4 walls are just closin’ in
lookin’ for a way to spend a little sin
i know a joint it’s the place to begin

CHORUS

improv break

V. III
so that’s my secret recipe
to set those winter doldrums free
not a fancy feast or elegant to-do
but a lot of fun to be had, just we two

CHORUS

TAG:
yes follow me & while the snow is fallin’ down
we’ll find a tin pan alley in this dead-end town

Right Here With Me

Written By: Britt Sondreal

RIGHT HERE WITH ME

V. I
Atrophied, weaken-knee’d
Leached out and locked
Smiling you eroded me
To weather-bleached rock

Never knowing what to do
Joining your game
All alone and lesser known
The closer I came

(Chorus)
And I know that this never will be
But I still want you right here with me

V. II
Run-around, broken down
Sanded and chipped
Clung so desperately I couldn’t
See what I gripped

Like a vine wraps a tree
Sapping its strength
My desire became a noose
Running our length

(Chorus)
And I know that this never can be
But I still want you right here with me
Yes I know that this never will be
But I still want you right here with me

Bridge
There was no moment this all fell apart
Just a slow leaking out right from the start
Look where we’ve come to, so seasonal and sad
Tell me how wanting you still hurts so bad

When I know that this never should be
But I still want you right here with me

V. III
Finely worn, fully shorn
Weak & undone
Thought I knew what I should do
And got us a gun

Smoked a phantom bridge the only
Way that I could
Now each time you look at me
I smell burning wood

Cause I know that this never will be
But I still want you right here with me
(repeat)

Who Do You Need?

Written By: Britt Sondreal

who do you need?

V.I
there’s a long, lonesome night
stretching out from sea to sea
there’s a restless wind in sight
that has turned your heart from me
when that cold and bitter moonlight
is all that you can see
won’t you come find my door
take your shelter here with me?

CHORUS
baby, who are you waiting for?
who do you need?
when the night has come and you’re all alone
who do you need?

V.II
i have seen you wand’ring off
on a clear and friendless night
i have heard your quiet pain
felt you trembling in fright
when you’re looking for that north
that you can’t find on your own
i’m your compass and your map
come and claim me for your own

CHORUS

BRIDGE
i hold you safely in my arms
you never feel me
when i try to whisper sweet words of love
you never can believe

CHORUS

Intro/Good Winter Love

Written By: Britt Sondreal

Good Winter Love

(intro)
let’s pray for a good winter love
snow soft as down from a soot-dusted dove
we’ll say a penitent farewell
to blinding hope hot with summery spell
and when we’ve shed such warm deceit
welcome with open hearts the snow and sleet

v.1
pray for a good winter love
snow as soft as the down
of a soot-dusted dove

we’ll say a gentle farewell
to our bright blinding hope
hot with summery spell

and when we’ve shed warm deceit
turn with hearts opened up
to the snow and the sleet

v.2
pray for an emptying out
let the white window wind
whistle through all our doubt

and like the lamp oil we saved
may the june gaudy gold
teach our souls to be brave

so when spring’s promise comes true
all our forced february
will finally take root

(bridge)
pray for a good winter love,
let it come from a
pray for a good winter love
from above (repeat)

v.3
pray for abundance of grace
let each boot-blackened track
disappear without trace

and when the strengthening snow
hides our well-traveled path
find a new way to go

so when the honey runs thin
we may seek sorrowless
as our mapl’ing begins

v.4
pray for a genesis year
let each dark icy night
january our fear

after fermenting the fall
may the new cellar-stock
serve to sober us all

and like the fish in our lake
wait with scale-glinting light
for the surface to break

(end)
if there’s a gift from above
let it be that we made this
a good winter love

and if there’s a gift from above
let it be that we make this
our good winter love
