Bio

Formed in the year 1983, Brock Tyler is a reverent lover of sounds and music, a proficient multi-instrumentalist, and an all-around nice guy. He is also emerging as one of western Canada's most promising songwriting talents.

The Edmonton-based songsmith has sparked national interest over the past year with Unclosing, a unique collection of 11 folk-pop songs supported by a multitude of instrumentation, from trumpets to banjos to his grandmother’s Hammond organ. In 2008, Unclosing hit the top ten on campus radio across the country, as well as garnering attention from both regional and national CBC programs, most notably CBC Radio 2’s Drive. Unclosing was also featured at length on Alberta community radio CKUA’s nightcap, during which host Luka Symons called it “a gem of an album”.

In support of Unclosing, Tyler embarked in the spring of 2008 on a successful 16-show tour of Western and Central Canada. The tour spanned between Victoria, BC and Ottawa, ON, and saw Tyler performing at such notable venues as the historic Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.

Tyler is known for his gracious and captivating live performances. With his complex finger picking style, engaging song forms, impressive lyrical prowess, and an ever-humble stage presence, Tyler comes off as likeable, unpretentious, and gifted. He is often supported live by Edmonton soul singer Heather Donily (The Carrollettes) and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Carroll (James Murdoch Band, Nathan Carroll Band).

Tyler is currently at work recording his follow-up to Unclosing, with a planned release date of September 2009, along with 2 EP's and another full-length on the backburner, each strikingly unique from one to the other. Experimenting in a range of musical styles and song forms, he ties his diverse collection of writing together with his thoughtful words and unique, restful voice.
