Biography

I picked up the guitar at the age of 12 after being inspired by a friend. Some of my early influences included Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen. My interest in these guitarists led me to start taking lessons from a well known local guitar teacher named Bill Decker. Bill's playing was unlike anything I had ever seen before at the time and taking lessons with him had a huge impact on me.

I recently graduated with a BA in Music Composition from Sonoma State University. My musical interests cover many styles with pieces ranging from 12 tone serialism to Javanese gamelan to fusion jazz. My piece "Bird Song” was the winning entry in a national Guitar World contest judged by Joe Satriani.

Ashen Idol is a new progressive rock/metal band that I perform with around the Bay Area. The band promotes itself with live performances and via the internet with AshenIdol.com, Myspace, and Youtube. The band is gaining a steady following and is in the process of recording a new demo CD.

Currently I'm teaching guitar at Music X Inc. in Santa Rosa and at the Sonoma Music Arts School. My future plans are to continue teaching, performing, and to further develop my visual guitar fretboard teaching program called “Guitar Geometry.” I hope to start a new website to expand on my guitar teaching and to disseminate my other projects.
