"Daily Feature: Broke in Stereo"

Broke in Stereo is a Brooklyn based indie rock band built on rich lyrical content, heavy guitar work, simple songwriting, and a very bluesy undertone, brainchild of Cabell Harris.

Some notable influences range from Citizen Cope, The Black Keys to Hendrix; as well as the countless other heavily influenced modern blues cross-genre groups.

-How do you define success as a musician?

Reaching the maximum number of potential listeners and fans who can enjoy and support our music.

Allowing a life that can be dedicated to the pursuit of creating and expanding music.

-What’s been your biggest challenge on the path to reaching that success?

Forming a team interested and capable of growing your vision and finding the best platform in which to promote it.

-What’s your most immediate goal right now?

Playing shows with more interested listeners and having the ability to fund a fund a simple budget.

-Do you have a manager or other help (outside of you and/or your band)?

Julie Reyes, our Photographer, and Javier Herrera, our promoter.

-Have you ever gone on tour?

Yes!

-Awesome, what was your favorite part of being on the road?

Bringing your personal energy to new crowds that have not experienced your show live — it gives a freeing, fresh and new feeling.

Also, playing songs that are not available to be heard other than live shows.

-What’s your favorite venue you’ve played?

Lovecraft Bar in NYC.

-What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done at a live show?

I completely improvised the guitar parts with a looper while I sang.

-What’s your favorite social media channel for promoting your music and shows? Has it helped you turn new fans out to see you?

Facebook; but it’s difficult to tell if it has had direct impact on turn outs. Seems it has…

-What’s the number one mistake you think aspiring musicians should avoid?

Don’t say yes to everything — and don’t give up because it seems impossible.

-What blogs, forums, Twitter chats, Facebook groups, or other online resources (if any) do you use to learn about the music industry and/or connect with other musicians?

SonicBids, Brooklyn Awesome Musicians, Berklee Alumni NYC and LA, Craigslist

-What kind of online resources for musicians would you like to see?

That’s difficult, since I feel there is so much currently available and it is too saturated. Any path available that is saturated becomes less useful in nature.

-Who are the top 3 bands / producers you’d like to open for or go on tour with?

The Black Keys, Radiohead, The Killers

-Do you have an email newsletter for fans to join? If so, share the link for everyone!

Yep, join our email list at the bottom of our homepage.

-Any parting words?

Don’t water down art for others, make art, then judge when it’s done. Get out of the way of the process as much as you can. If you make it for yourself, then it’s true expression. If you make it for someone else, it’s probably business. - Showspark

"Into the Clouds - Broke in Stereo / Technocrat / Friendly Males / Sound is Lovv"

Into the Clouds is one of the last events downtown Los Angeles will host for the year 2015. The acts in this line-up are promising upcoming bands to keep an eye on in 2016. The night includes four musical acts, majority of which are LA local with the exception of the one Brooklyn, NY odd man out.

Headlining the event will be the Brooklyn based indie rock act Broke in Stereo, who are excited to be sharing their 2015 self-released EP “Ear Art”. Led by Cabell Harris on guitar and vocals and featuring Julian Salvador on bass and Robby Sinclair on drums. The music is built on rich lyrical content of a meandering mind, heavy guitar work, simple songwriting, and a very bluesy undertone. Finding success throughout the Brooklyn and Manhattan studio and club scene, they are beginning their dissent onto the west coast.

They will be joined by local talent Technocrat who in March of 2013 self-released “So Far”which received praise and encore as they pursue their full-length album. The trio began in 2012, with Chris McGuire, joined by former band member Steve Tapia on drums and Nicolas Juarez on bass, the three are active throughout the L.A. scene.

The bill also includes the Experimental Psych-pop band Friendly Males returningfrom a regional tour of the west coast. Showcasing their album “Nopalera” aswell as video “Ambulance Driver” as brand new releases from Lolipop Records.

Closing down the night will be the live debut of the Shoegaze/Noise rock group Sound is Lovv and their EP “Shipwrecks” along with their newly released music video “Take Me With You”.

The Down and Out is a cavernous, understated hangout with a local vibe with good drinks and a generous happy hour. This will be a great show to take in and set the mood for New Year’s Eve 2015.

Bio

Broke in Stereo is a blues rock nouveau band whose sound is built on the rich lyrical content, heavy rhythmic elements, sophisticated songwriting, and strong instrumental improvisation. Their most notable release being their debut music video “Dark Side” from the EP “Ear Art”, which has received enthusiastic praise from fans, listeners and critics alike.

California born and raised guitarist and frontman, Cabell Harris, began writing and composing at early adolescence. After graduating Berklee College of Music in Boston Cum Laude in 2009, Harris moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina and spent extended time traveling abroad in South America. Returning state-side Harris worked his way west from California wine harvests out east where home-base became Brooklyn, NY. In 2014, Broke in Stereo was founded.

The band is a truly unique live experience. Performing their own original material they expand, contract and improvise through a variety of formats on stage using virtuosic instrumental skill and interpretation.
