"B.E.S.T. OF EMERGENZA CANADIAN SHOWCASE TOUR"

Our first-ever B.E.S.T. of Emergenza Showcase Tour was an absolute success! 3 days on the road on our snazzy yellow bus, some 1,300km under our belt. Our bums are quite sore and we all need major rest, but I bet all the bands wish they could be back on the road to play more shows.

On Thursday night in Montreal, more than 400 people were present at the amazing Club Soda. LEAP, who will go to represent Canada at the International Acoustic Showcase in Paris this December) couldn’t have been a better choice to open the Tour. They set the bar for the others and showed the audience what being the BEST of Emergenza is all about. The much anticipated Ontario Winner, SLAVE TO THE SQUAREWAVE, lived up to the hype and even received a standing ovation from the stunned crowd. Local heroes BROKEN PICTURES put on a very solid performance for their many, many, enthralled fans. Grammy-nominated producer Robbie Finkel (Moist, Les Colocs, Cirque du Soleil’s Allegria) met with them for a long time after their performance. A good sign!

All in all, a fantastic time! Many of the bands are already talking amongst themselves, hoping to hook up for other shows together. Better watch out for these bands coming back to a town near you real soon!

"DON’T MISS THE B.E.S.T. OF EMERGENZA SHOWCASE TOUR IN CANADA!"

The B.E.S.T of Emergenza showcase tour is getting underway OCTOBER 2-3-4 in the best clubs in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. The Tour will showcase Emergenza’s hottest talent from Canada and Europe in a FREE CONCERT SERIES open to the public but tailored especially for A&Rs to discover new, up and coming bands of all musical styles. Come join us for 3 nights of great music, 100% guaranteed!

The free B.E.S.T. Showcase Tour stops at Montreal’s Club Soda Oct.2nd, drops by The Reverb in Toronto Oct. 3rd and lands in Ottawa’s Barrymore’s Oct. 4th. It will feature 2 great bands from Europe that were participant of the Emergenza Festival in the past and that are now signed to major labels, thanks to Emergenza – Universal artist EMIL BULLS of Germany and ZEN of Italy. Both will play in Canada for the very first time.

Also on the bill in all cities are last year’s Canadian Emergenza winners, the excellent DIRECT LINE (Montreal – metal / hip hop). The incredible electro-pop act & winner of the Emergenza Ontario Final 2003, SLAVE TO THE SQUAREWAVE, and Ottawa winners, rockers STONE MELODIES will also be there each night. Other bands to join us on selected dates are: Quebec 2003 winners BROKEN PICTURES (alternative rock), LEAP (alternative), and finalist SWORDFISH (alternative); from Ottawa, finalists LOVENBODYPARTS (electronica) & The RUDE DUDES (ska), and Toronto’s BRAIN TOY (progressive dark). See their bios & websites below.

Montreal’s BROKEN PICTURES were Quebec’s representative at the International Final in Germany this year. This band amazingly only has about 10 shows under their belt, yet their on-stage professionalism and strong songwriting skills is up to par with the pros. Their lead singer’s warm charisma will win your (and your girlfriend’s) heart. Their sound brings to mind a better, harder, edgier, more soulful Matchbox Twenty. They will be soon recording their very first album thanks to Emergenza and are working on their new website www.brokenpicturesmusic.com

"SURPRISE IN MONTREAL BROKEN PICTURES GOES TO GERMANY"

Sometimes, nice guys DO win! No one could have been more surprised than BROKEN PICTURES themselves this Saturday night when the winner of the Montreal Final was announced. These guys, whose sound brings to mind a harder, edgier, more soulful Matchbox 20, were happy just to have the chance to play at Le Medley, and were not expecting a win – after all, they have been together barely a year and had an early time slot. Maybe this relaxed attitude is what made the difference on stage. Frank, Sly, Ben and Jeff truly shone, performing their compositions with heart – they truly looked as if they owned the stage. BROKEN PICTURES’ soul and warmth and the charisma of their lead singer, Frank, clearly won the hearts of both audience and jury this past Saturday at Le Medley.

The top prize also included 40hrs of recording at Studio Le Quid, which will come in handy for these guys, who do not have a demo and have never even stepped in a recording studio. They were also very, very honored to have been chosen “Best Band” by the other finalists.

Frank

A warm and deep voice captivating you between it's screams and whispers. Frank in a instant smile, creates a direct contact with the audience. He channels the soul and vision of Broken Pictures and delivers it to all those who stand before him leaving them begging for more. An unstoppable fever strikes the fans at each and every show.

Sly

For Sly, it's all about emotions. He can make you jump and shout with "Washing Machine's" powerful riffs or move you and touch your soul with melancholia and intense melodies with "The pain that drives" and "Scream". If you happen to witness Sly on stage standing still, eyes closed, he's simply in trance under the effects of the music.

Derf

Inspired, creative, talented, young and good looking. What more could you ask for in a drummer? Always searching for new beats, Derf pounds out all the drive and energy of the band and then some. Isn't it what rock is all about? With the unexpected arrival of Derf and his showmanship, it's now clear: nothing can stop Broken Pictures

Jay

Very few bands have the privilege of counting among their ranks a complete performer such as Jay. He's a real firecracker on stage; dancing all over the place. His specialty: creating floods of melodies while combining awesome grooves with impeccable rhythms. Jay surely provokes shockwaves in crowds and before you know it, you'll be dancing just as the show is starting.
