Bio

Beginning in the end of 2002, Jamie Weddle, Keith Sheppard, Will VanZonneveld, and Adam Cheslow formed the band, Broken Symbol around December. They tried playing as a group and nothing ever really materialized. Adam left the group because he felt they weren't going to go anywhere..(haha little did he know!)
By spring of 2003, news had circulated the music world that rhythm guitarist, Will VanZonnveld, would soon be leaving the band in the next months to move to Florida, where he resides today. By the end of 2003, current bassist, Ronnie Dooley joins the band and Jamie moves from bass to drums. Keith, Ronnie and Jamie all jammed for a few months, but nothing serious came out of this trio either.
By spring 2004 Keith announced his departure from the band, leaving only Jamie and Ronnie. The band went on a one year hiatus until re-uniting in mid March 2005, this time with a new guitarist, Travis Bell. The trio wrote their first actual song, mainly influenced by Dooley and Weddle, "I Need You." By April 2005, the band added a "sit-in" guitarist/fill in vocalist, Zach Rice, which would be a major influence over the next year.
June 15, 2005, Broken Symbol plays their first show as a band with Ronnie Dooley on vocals, Jamie Weddle on drums, and Travis Bell on guitar. The band played 2 original hits ( I Need You, The Wilderness That Chants) along with 4 covers, ( War Chant, Smoke on the Water, Ironman, and Crazy Train.)
Over the next 3 months, the band would write many of their hits they have today such as "Why," "Cool," and "Everytime I See Your Face." Through 2005 and early 2006, the recording, song writing, and energy within the band grew enormously.
June 14, 2006, Broken Symbol played their second annual graduation party and within a week, got voted in to play Battle of the Bands at Greystone Tavern, with the 2nd most votes of 12 bands heading into their first live show. By the end of the battle, Broken Symbol finished 8th, but got several 1st place votes in originality. They met and became friends with fellow local band, Red Light Syndrome, and later played the Moose Lodge on 311 later in July 2006 with them.
The recording continues on and off until deminishing to almost nothing by spring 2007. Travis Bell leaves the band, reason unknown, and Jamie informs the band he will be moving to North Carolina at the end of 2007, to further his post-high school education for the 2008 year.
February 14, 2008, the band receives sad news. Bassist Ronnie Dooley is thrown in jail on 4 felony charges which were reduced to a single misdemeanor charge and would serve his sentence until May 15, 2008. Jamie and Zach weren't available for comment that night.
Fall 2008 rolls around and Broken Symbol re-emerges yet again, with big plans this time around. Ronnie Dooley and Jamie Weddle began talking song/music ideas when they would hang out before getting back in the studio by November 2008, when Jamie returned, permanently. The band began to gather ideas as to who would fill the open spot for guitar. By December and several tryouts, Brad Meador was the newest guitarist of Broken Symbol. The three began jamming over on Meadowlark before moving the equipment to a better suited studio for the band on Aragona.
By late March/early April 2009 the band added a 2nd guitarist, Erik Collier, who would eventually become their lead guitarist/solo master by mid April.
As of today, Broken Symbol has played a handful of house parties and is working very hard on new material for an all new album with a release in the near future. The energy is strong and the music is new, with the definitive, signature sound, brought to you only by, the one, the only, Broken Symbol
