"HEARTBEAT 960 SHOW REVIEW"

... Favorite voices in the city, Brooke Manning... the addition of a band has taken [her music] to another level. The performers (consisting of lap steel, flute and synth) create a beautiful sound scape, cushioning Brooke's unique voice and guitar playing. The city became a secondary instrument, a passing street car, buzzing air conditioner, wind rustled leaves, added new layers to Manning's performance. She's currently on tour with Tisso Lake and The Wilderness of Manitoba... - http://birdstootiredtofly.blogspot.com

"EXCLAIM!"

"A singer-songwriter from which we can draw inspiration, sculpting images of lyrical dreams, fragile vocals, eyes closed, digging deep into soulful introspection. Quaint acoustic-folk, later followed by a kalimba, like being graced by an earthbound angel providing musical joy. A warm, wistful spirit, demonstrating that minimal, continues to be timeless and beautiful."

"BLOG T.O."

"...ambient and melodic folk songs possess sadness that contrasts with her contagious laughter between performances... minimalist instrumentation allows her vocals to become the central focus of her performance, and rightly so as Manning's voice seems flawless oscillating from goose bump inducive lows to heart-warming highs..."

Bio

Brooke Manning is a Toronto-based conceptual artist, musician, writer and recent graduate the Ontario College of Art and Design. She believes in the journey of melodic drone. Having performed on her own for 1 year under the name Owl Eyes, Brooke now has the help of her friends Thom Gill (T H O M A S, Final Fantasy, Bruce Peninsula), Dan and Matthew Pencer (T H O M A S), Stefan Banjevik (The Wilderness of Manitoba, Key Witness), and Erin Lang (Erin Lang, Tuuli, Roger O'Donnell of The Cure). The music still remains organically minimal but the band provides a warm underlying blanket for the listener to wrap themselves in while new forms take shape.

Brooke is influenced by the all-encompassing, overwhelming spirit of community and mutual understanding. She writes quickly as if by meditation and loves improvisation. Her sounds are reminders of love, truth, and beauty.
