"Traveling on a Song"

It seems that Brooke Parrott can't sit still. She has sung her way from Eugene to Seattle to Boston and back again. This week she's in town for a short while after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston and before heading off to London. Before she takes flight to find more musical inspiration, Parrott is celebrating the release of her first full-length album, Another City.

Her music is a complex combination of powerful lyricism and bluesy pop. Parrott's lyrics impose themselves upon you in an endearing manner, but her musical talents are maybe even more impressive. The songs on her album feature a wide array of instruments from the cello to the fiddle, and Parrott not only concentrates on vocals but also plays both the piano and organ.

While music is undoubtedly the focus of Parrott's life, for the last couple of years she has also dedicated her time to raising funds for AIDS education in Ghana through an organization called LifeLovers. LifeLovers is working to fund a refuge and education facility for homeless orphans, and to help in this effort, Parrott will be holding a raffle at her release party.

The emotion Parrott feels for LifeLovers translates into her music through her new single, "Maybe She Just Doesn't Love You," and "In Any Light," which has a slow but resonating sound. -- Megan Udow, Eugene Weekly - The Eugene Weekly

"Brooke Returns"

"Harmonious melodies played by Brooke Parrott and other talented collaborators from all over the country are the background for the 24-year-old's impeccable voice. Blues, Americana and folk music genres heavily influence the lyric-driven songs on her upcoming debut album, "Another City." Parrott will release the album on Friday at Cozmic in Eugene." -- Ali Grise, The Daily Emerald. Bio

Brooke Parrott was born in the magical land of Eugene, Oregon. When she was six years old, her twin brother was sent to piano lessons, but after throwing a tantrum, she was sent instead. Little did her parents know that she would be taking lessons for the next 18 years. Years transpired, and Brooke moved to Seattle, passing two years drinking coffee and writing songs. Before long, her time in the rainy city was over and Brooke was headed east to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston on scholarship. At Berklee, she quickly became a favorite in the Songwriting department, and also discovered a talent for using music to impact social issues. After founding the Student Musicians Against AIDS group, she organized events to raise money and awareness for deserving AIDS organizations all over the world. Parrott's Americana pop sound draws from influences such as Fiona Apple, Paul Simon, and Brandi Carlile, and she continues to distinguish herself from the pack with her unusual singing voice and introspective lyrics. In May 2008 she released her debut album, “Another City”, on Ten til Six Records. She currently splits her time between Oregon and London living and performing.
