"BROOKLINE TALKS UPCOMING SINGLE “SINKING” AND NEW EP IN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW! (@BROOKLINE518)"

We recently had the chance to chat with Brookline about their upcoming single “Sinking”, recording their EP “Fade”, and more.

Check out the interview below and subscribe to see more of Brookline on our channel!

1. What was the recording process like for your new EP “Fade”?
We had had a lot of the music for these songs written before we went through some line up changes this past fall, so once Tommy got lyrics down and we made some minor edits to the songs to better fit his vocal range we were ready to hit the studio. From there Dae and I laid down guitar tracks over programmed drums, then Matt came in and added his bass lines, next Chris tracked all the live drums, and finally Tommy would record all the vocals with Dae doing some harmonies.-Mikey

2. How did you choose “Sinking” as your single? What stood out to you?
Sinking just felt like the natural choice for us. Its high energy and catchy but the subject matter is really serious and personal. We felt it would be a good way to show people what we’re about and give a good overview of the general theme of this EP.-Mikey

3. How did you narrow down the songs that you were going to include on the EP?
We didn’t really have to narrow down, as soon as we had a few good songs written musically we decided we would do a short EP that had a concept to it. We were pretty eager to get music recorded and released with our new lineup since our sound had changed a bit.-Mikey

4. How will this project be different from others that you’ve worked on in the past?
The biggest difference between this and everything we’ve done previously is definitely the addition of a second guitar, and a new vocalist. Originally Dae was playing bass and we had a different singer, Cory Hebert. Adding Dae as second guitar and having Matt Spinner and Tommy Carter as part of our group now has definitely widened our range of influence.-Mikey

5. What is a typical day like in the studio?
We like to go in early so there’s always large amounts of coffee involved, we typically do about 4-6 hours at a time depending on what we’re working on that day. We try to be as prepared as we can before we go in so everything is usually pretty relaxed and runs smooth.-Mikey

6. What do you think fans are going to take away from the EP?
What we’d really hope fans get out of this EP, what we’ve really tried to communicate through it, is that even though you’ve done bad things or made mistakes in the past those things don’t need to define you for the rest of your life. The possibility for growth and redemption exists every day, you just need to look for it.-Mikey

7. Will you be going on any tours or hosting any events to promote the EP?
No we will not.

8. Where and when can fans purchase or listen to your music?
Sinking will be released on all platforms February 1st and the rest of the EP will be out February 22nd. All of our previous work is up on all platforms currently.-Mikey

"BROOKLINE premiere new single 'Sinking'"

NY-based alternative rock band Brookline have released their new single "Sinking," out TODAY. The second single off of their upcoming EP "Fade" (out 2/22), "Sinking" sings an emotional narrative, touching upon themes of heartbreak and addiction. Elements of hard rock and pop punk are meshed together in the track, creating a unique blend that hints at influences of 90's alternative. With an upcoming music video planned for "Sinking," Brookline is also gearing up for the release of "Fade," which will take new listeners on an emotional ride. About the single, the band states:

“Sinking” is the 2nd single off of Brookline’s Fade EP and tells the story of a relationship torn apart by addiction. The chorus hook “like a ship at sea you’re sinking, and I can’t be your lighthouse beacon” embodies the theme of the song; that although this person clearly needs help, their partner can no longer handle being subjected to their self destructive behavior and has to leave for their own good.

A five piece alternative rock band from upstate New York, Brookline features Mikey Pace (guitar), Dave Bennet (guitar), Matt Spinner (bass), Chris Fox (drums), and Tommy Carter (vocals). Formed in 2018, the group has mixed influence from pop punk and emo to post-hardcore and 90’s alternative rock. In late 2018, they announced the upcoming release of their second EP "Fade," recorded with Jake Mannix of Indigo Audio Co. "Fade" shows a large amount of growth in musicianship as well as lyrical content from the groups earlier work. Touching on personal experiences of heartbreak, and the struggles of drug/alcohol abuse, "Fade" uses a combination of explosive hard rock and melodic emo and alternative influence to express these themes to their listeners and is set to be released February 22, 2019. The lead single off of "Fade," titled "Sinking," is available NOW on all digital platforms. - 25/8 PR

"INTERVIEW: Brookline chat new single "Sinking" and upcoming EP "Fade""

1.Why was “Sinking” chosen as the lead single off your upcoming EP?

We thought Sinking would be the best choice for the single because it was probably the most personal song we’ve ever written. It also embodies the general theme of this EP and the direction we’re moving as a band.

2. Which EP track do you think represents Brookline’s sound as a whole?

That’s a tough question. Lucid probably is the best representation of our musical style. Sinking is a close second though, for sure. The differences in the two songs show our wide range of influence across the band, and our writing could go either way at any time.

3. Do you plan to release any other singles/music videos in this EP cycle?

Sinking is coming out on February 1st, and then the full EP will be available for download on February 22nd. After that we will be releasing a music video for Sinking on March 5th.

4.What was the recording process like for “Fade”?

We started with demos recorded at practice and used them to program drums, then recorded guitars and bass over that. Next we did the live drums and finally, the vocals. It was a pretty smooth process; we’ve been working with Jake Mannix for a long time now in various projects so we all work together pretty well.

5. Was it difficult to choose which tracks to put on the record?

To be honest, not really. We had some of these songs written with minor differences before we changed our line up this past fall. Originally we were a four piece with a different singer and Dae playing bass. Once we got Tommy and Matt in the band, we tweaked the songs to better fit Tommy’s vocal style and let Dae add in his guitar parts. We felt these four songs as a whole were a good representation of the new sound and worked really well together as a small conceptual EP.

6. Where can fans listen to your music and connect with you?

All of our music is available for streaming and download on any major platform (spotify, apple music, amazon, etc) and our social media pages are:

"Unsigned Spotlight: Brookline"

Unsigned Spotlight: Brookline

Brookline is an alternative rock band from upstate New York.

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band.

Tommy Carter-Vocals

Mikey Pace-Guitar

Dae Bennett-Guitar/Backing Vocals

Matt Spinner-Bass

Chris Fox-Drums

For starters, what bands were you guys a part of prior to Brookline? How long has the band been around?

Dae was in a band called Almost Accounted For, Matt plays in a band called The Northway, Mikey played in a band called Flood the Streets before he joined the army in 2012, Chris was in a band called the Conflict Theory, and Tommy has never been in a band before. Brookline has been a band since April 2018, but Matt and Tommy didn’t join until this past October.

What’s the origin of that name and have you changed the band’s name before?

The name comes from a road in Ballston Spa where Mikey grew up. It doesn’t really have any real significance, he just had a friend that lived there and thought it would be a cool name for a band. No, we haven’t ever changed the bands name.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs and do you think these topics will change over time?

Writing is a pretty collaborative effort. Everyone pretty much writes their own parts for our songs and gives each other ideas on what to do if they’re stuck. The main theme of this EP is recognizing your own need to change and the process is takes to make that realization. It’s something we’ve all gone through in some degree recently so writing about it came pretty naturally. In the future we plan to continue writing as transparently as we can about our own life experiences, so I’m sure as we grow the themes and topics in our music will as well.

What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?

We all have pretty different influences that round out our sound.

Mikey- The Wonder Years, Beartooth, Billy Talent

Tommy- State Champs, Movements, The Story So Far

Matt - Beartooth, Blink-182, A Day to Remember

Chris- The Story So Far, Bayside, Taking Back Sunday

Dae- Silverstein, Senses Fail, Linkin Park.

Was there a particular band/artist or concert that inspired you to start a band?

We’ve all been involved in music one way or another since we were preteens but I think everyone has the one show, or those few shows, they’ve seen that really inspire them and make them want to chase the dream.

What do you do to prepare for a show? Any flexing, exercises, ect …

It’s actually pretty weird, but we do a 5 part harmony starting with Mikey hitting the lowest note he possibly can and everyone else chiming in one by one. It doesn’t have any real purpose, we just did it one day as a joke and it stuck.

What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

So far we’ve opened for a few bigger bands that were coming to our hometown on tour, and we have another show scheduled on March 30th opening for Calling all Captains and Makari, so we’re pretty excited about that.

If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

Mikey - The Wonder Years for sure. They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes but I’m willing to take the chance.

Matt - Beartooth. They're one of my favorite bands and their live shows are always insane.

Tommy - It’s would be awesome to see State Champs kill it every night on tour. Being from upstate New York, they’re a huge inspiration for me and they just seem like genuine, cool dudes.

Chris- Bayside or The Story So Far. Those guys kill it with every performance and it would be awesome to play alongside them.

Dae- Linkin Park. They have been one of my favorite bands since I was young. It would be a dream come true to share the same stage.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We just want to say how much we appreciate everyone who’s been checking out our music and everyone who will listen to this EP. We’ve been in bands in the past but this is the first time we all feel like we’ve really dumped our hearts and souls into our art and are just so grateful for anyone who connects with it. - Jordan Mohler

"NY Alternative rock band BROOKLINE release new EP 'Fade'"

NY-based alternative rock band Brookline have released their brand new EP "Fade," out on all digital platforms NOW. Their most recent single "Sinking," which was released on February 1st, sings an emotional narrative, touching upon themes of heartbreak and addiction. "Sinking" is perhaps the best representation of the EP as a whole; elements of hard rock and pop punk are meshed together in the track, creating a unique blend that hints at influences of 90's alternative. The remaining EP tracks continue on a sentimental path, telling a full story centralized around the theme of toxicity. About the EP, the band states:

We wanted Fade to tell a story. We released Two Thirds in the fall to warm people up to our new sound and line up, but we wanted to take some time after that to really develop a concept behind our next release. in Mid december we finished writing the other 3 songs for the EP, Goodbye, Sinking, and Lucid, and felt like we had really accomplished our goal. Fade tells the story of becoming aware of your own self destructive and toxic traits and fighting to take back control of your life.
