Brooks Brown

17 year old Brooks Brown may be young, but his age has no impact on his delicate, evolving sound. Originally from Tulsa and now based in Leawood, Kansas, Brooks has been active for just over a year, releasing both original tracks and remixes, including his own take on Bastille‘s “Pompeii” and Drake‘s “The Motion”. With a four-song EP entitled Sidetracked due out on May 12th, we bring you the energetic title track.
Featuring Madi Walsh‘s charming vocals, “Sidetracked” highlights both artists abilities in a refined, animate way. As the song grows from its subtle beginning into its high-energy peaks it maintains ground through its mix of trap-based beats and reverb-filled melodies. Brooks Brown is gearing up to release his debut EP, Sidetracked, and today we're excited to premiere the fourth and final track from the collection, "Countdown." Though the 17-year-old multi-instrumentalist describes himself as a "seemingly normal teenager" his music begs to differ. The Kansas-based producer has been carving a spot out for himself in the flourishing R&B revival, and as this new track proves, he can also create dreamy, upbeat electronic music with the best of them. “This instrumental came about in the midst of this past winter," Brown explains. "I had a collection of various tunes that I had developed ideas for after GRAMMY Camp, and the base of this one particular idea ended up as the full, fleshed out version of 'Countdown.'“

So you should sit down real quick if you aren't already. This collaboration between Brooks Brown x Tranquillité features a combined age of both producers equaling 32-years-old. That's right, 32. And you can divide it right down the middle to see that both of these young bucks are each currently only 16. I'm not 100% sure where Tranquillité is from but I do know Brooks Brown is growing up super close to me out in Leawoood, Kansas. This recent collab from these youngsters is on some pretty impressive turn up juice and it's hard to not be impressed by what these two have cranked out here. And while it's not necessarily news that there's young talent in electronic dance music anymore...it's still mind blowing to me that there's kids in high school (and younger) sitting in front of their DAWs more than clowning around with their friends. Maybe they do that anyways, but I don't remember being anywhere near this productive and proficient at 16. Support from the likes of Mayhem, Ape Drums, and HLTR$KLTR definitely signifies they're doing something right. - Complex
