BROTHA-HOODZ is a new group from the ATL whose on a mission to change the hip-hop culture in the south as well as world-wide. Consisting of two members "Nova Styles : Universal B-Boy Extraordinare" AKA Jamil Shumpert and Seriouz Black AKA Demarkeaz McDuffey the two have been working together since at an early age in the backyards of Monroe, Louisiana. The flawless partnership and the group's interactions can be seen by many. Exposed to hip-hop since they were young, both would tell you that hip-hop is apart of their lives. " I can remember back when I was a small shorty, I could always tell the difference between real hip-hop and bullshit..." is what Nova Styles states while explaining about his life growing up with hip-hop. Plus with his characterized rhymes and animated dance moves, you can see how he brings the energy and charisma to the group and how it defines BROTHA-HOODZ. Seriouz Black however brings a different element to the group...through his down to earth southern soul of his church felt singing voice and the gritty tell all lines he expresses with great emotions. He holds down the vocals for the group's hooks and melodic ad libs. Inspired by early talents they're both well rounded. " I remember listening to these few artist for the first time. I felt their passion and the words they put in their songs. Also the unique voices each one of them carried..." says Seriouz Black. Black's influences are Mystikal, Tupac, Donny Hathaway and Music Soulchild. Nova's influences are the early kurupt,trech, the performances of Michael Jackson, and the hip-hop movements of the early breakers, like "Rock Steady Crew" and the Electric Boogaloo of the West Coast. While mixing the old ways with the new style and approach, BROTHA-HOODZ make sure they try to be as different, creative, real, and as entertaining as possible.
