Lyrics

Broken Man

Written By: Bruce Unger

Father Gene
You gotta help me please
I'm not what they say I am

In a desperate game of chance
I lost all my land
To a man with soft white hands

Father Gene
You gotta help me please
I'm losin' all control

I got myself a gun
I wanna send him on the run
For what he's taken from me

Stole my hopes and gave me a mountain of fear
That land is nothin' more to him than a souvenir
It's been in my family for centuries
Worked every inch of it on our hands and knees
And now that axe of his will strike every tree
Those hands of his won't plant a single seed
That precious land is all that I am
Can you hear the sigh
Of a Broken Man?

Father Gene
You gotta help me please
They're comin' after me

It's true I had a gun
But I just wanted to watch him run
And to know the fear that I own

Can you tell them what I am
A humble man who worked the land
Until that devious man

Stole my hopes and gave me a mountain of fear
That land is nothin' more to him than a souvenir
It's been in my family for centuries
Worked every inch of it on our hands and knees
And now that axe of his will strike every tree
Those hands of his won't plant a single seed
That precious land is all that I am
Can you hear the sigh
Of a Broken Man?

The Condemned Man

Written By: Bruce Unger

I don't want to be let go
Even though I know
Her promises are like glass
That breaks so easily
The promises she makes
Never seem to keep

Lethal injection of false promises
Executioner is lyin in my bed
My final words were I'll do anything
Just please
Stop lyin to me

Why does she make promises
And why do I believe them
When I know they're going off
By now you'd think I'd have learned
So if I keep believing her words
Maybe I deserve to get burned

Lethal injection of false promises
Executioner is lyin in my bed
My final words were I'll do anything
Just please
Stop lyin to me

On the eve of my demise
Much to my surprise
She granted a reprieve
And she promised no more lies
How long do I have
Before that promise goes bad?

Lethal injection of false promises
Executioner is lyin in my bed
My final words were I'll do anything
Just please
Stop lyin to me

Try Tomorrow

Written By: Bruce Unger

It seems to me that your door
Is normally closed
Maybe that's why I normally
Leave you alone

That photograph you have of me
Is getting so old
Have a look at me, I'm still here
You'll see how much I've grown

You're a wise and gentle man
And I want to learn from you
Everything that I can

I know I'm not always good
But I'm trying to be all that you were
I'm made from you
Shouldn't you want to
Be friends with me, I'm your lad
Please try a little harder
Dad

Maybe I'll try tomorrow, try tomorrow son
Maybe I'll try tomorrow, after my work is done

I saw you with your papers
In a faraway place
It seems lately daddy
You've been working awful late

I'm getting restless
And you're getting old
I'd like to see you laugh again
Before I have to go

You're handsome and you're kind
Where ever you need to go today
Take me with you if you don't mind

I know I'm not always good
But I'm trying to be all that you were
I'm made from you
Shouldn't you want to
Be friends with me, I'm your lad
Please try a little harder
Dad

Maybe I'll try tomorrow, try tomorrow son
Maybe I'll try tomorrow, after my work is done

Time is slippin away
This chance will never come again

Must She Giggle?

Written By: Bruce Unger

Sitting on the edge of an easy chair
Reading old newspapers in my underwear
The phonograph was crackling 'Hey Joe'

She crept up like a sunrise
I could not help but hide my eyes
She was inclined to glare

I was not ready

She was inspecting me like a doctor would a patient
She looked so clinical, with her cinnamon hair all braided
And I felt naked, abused, invaded
So tell me

Why must she giggle
When she looks at my face?
What's so funny?
Why's she looking at me that way?
Why must she laugh?
Why am I turning red?

I need for her to look at me differently
Could you keep your voices down in the back
I need to start performing my own stunts
If I get any part of this wrong at all would I turn into a human fireball?
That would hurt, even after she put me out

No I just don't get it

If she thinks she's giving me the eye then why do I feel cheated?
And if she's giving off a vibe, shouldn't I expect to feel it?
If there was warmth in this fire, I might be inclined to feed it
So tell me

Why must she giggle
When she looks at my face?
What's so funny?
Why's she looking at me that way?
Why must she laugh?
Why am I turning red?
