BandFolkAcoustic

A singer/songwriter in the classic tradition of Paul Simon and Billy Joel, with a modern, mainstream pop/rock twist in the style of Counting Crows, John Mayer and others. With whip smart accessible lyrics and catchy hooks and high emotional impact, Bryan's music is honest, heartfelt, and damn good.

Biography

Bryan Fenkart is just like you. The first thing you'll notice on his debut release, "Imperfect Man" are the lyrics. Bryan's introspective, highly-emotionally charged words strip him down to his human core, while at the same time magnetically drawing in his listeners with their uncanny accessibility and naked honesty. Never pretentious, frequently clever, but always real, Bryan has placed his finger on the pulse of his generation and this album is what he found. The words are mingled with expertly performed pop/rock songwriting with sensibilities reminiscent of John Mayer, Marc Broussard, Ben Folds, even the great Billy Joel. The songwriting is perfectly thought out, and remarkably diverse. Combined with the masterful production of Charles Newman, the album takes you to a place that is equal parts polished and raw, epic and restrained, mainstream and indie. At times youâll find your feet tapping and your head bobbing, other times you'll find your heart breaking and your eyes welling with tears. But the whole time, you'll feel a sense of familiarity with the songwriting, almost as if you could have written the songs yourself. Bryan's beautifully arranged music and careful heartfelt storytelling is revealing and profound, moving and upbeat, fun and devastating, and expertly conveys the monumental struggle that wages every day: Man vs. his flaws. We all have our regrets. But listen to this album-rest assured it won't be one of them.

Lyrics

Empty Handed

Written By: Bryan Fenkart

You’re looking at a guy I know too well,
Human underneath, but scared as hell,
We can talk until the sun comes up,
But you won’t have any better luck,
Breakin thru the skin that I’ve been hiding in.

You formulate a plan to get me alone,
By doing things your friends would not condone,
I might have a crush on you,
But only till you ask me to
Reveal myself, then you’re squeezing blood from a stone.

Tell me a lie, and I won’t break your heart,
We’ll fall in love, but I told you from the start,
I will bend, I will break, I will give more than you take,
But in the end, you will walk away empty-handed.

You know that I would like to run away,
But there’s seven thousand reasons I should stay.
You burned away all of my fear,
When you sent me thru the atmosphere,
I fell for you, now I know how to let go.

At least that’s what I thought when we began,
We fit together like an ice cold black and tan,
But then the drunken haze would lift,
And I knew that I could never give
You the dream you had, the 2 and a half kids and a minivan.

Tell me a lie, and I won’t break your heart,
We’ll fall in love, but I told you from the start,
I will bend, I will break, I will give more than you take,
But in the end, you will walk away empty-handed.

I have had enough of second tries,
Apologies and half-hearted goodbyes,
If we’re supposed to meet again,
Then time will stop and space will bend,
And maybe then, I’ll finally believe you.

Tell me a lie, and I won’t break your heart,
We’ll fall in love, but I told you from the start,
I will bend, I will break, I will give more than you take,
But in the end, you will walk away empty-handed.

You will walk away empty-handed.

I Miss You

Written By: Bryan Fenkart

I’m getting tired of waiting around
For the fireworks at the end.
They never seem to quite live up
To what the ads in the paper said.
Now it seems like there’s nothing worth listening to
On the radio anymore.
And it’s hard when you’re waiting, always waiting,
But you don’t know what you’re waiting for.

Oh, I miss you.
Oh, I wish you knew how much I miss you.
I miss you.

Like some awful disease, the desire to please
Has left me naked, gray and cold.
I’ve been grinding these gears for 25 years now,
But I feel 100 years old.
And how easy you slipped through my awkward young grip
While I was busy trying to grow up,
And now all of my prayers sound like half-assed dares
To a coward who won’t show up.

Oh, I miss you.
Oh, I wish you knew how much I miss you.
I miss you.

Hold me under your skin,
You let me in,
Oh, you were home.

I guess I never quite understood how to fail and still have grace,
Cuz even if I got back up there were marks all over my face,
Like fools and their gold all the lies I’ve been told,
Well, I’ll believe them if I choose,
But try as I might, I cannot win a fight,
That I’ve already been chosen to lose.

Oh, I miss you.
Oh, I wish you knew how much I miss you.
I miss you.

Hammer To Fall

Written By: Bryan Fenkart

Crack of dawn is comin on,
How long’s this been goin on?
Haven’t slept at all
And I feel like I need a phonecall,
To tell me my luck isn’t gone.

Can’t live like this I know,
But I can’t let this go.

How far gone am I?
Can’t get over this wall.
Waiting patiently
For the hammer to fall.

Tell me can you throw me a line,
Lend me a hand or give me a sign,
Must be something better than
Reading myself these letters and
Getting drunk off of cheap wine.

Can’t live like this I know,
These scars are starting to show.

How far gone am I?
Can’t get over this wall.
Waiting patiently
For the hammer to fall.
Waiting patiently...

Right in front of my eyes,
I have burned out a star,
But have I gone too far?

Crack of dawn is comin on,
Everything I had is gone.

How far gone am I?
Can’t get over this wall.
Waiting patiently
For the hammer to fall.
