"Bryan Turner - What You're Looking For"

"Bryan Turner has a wonderfully unique voice that's mature and mellow...a modern day recapture of all those days I spent soaking up James Taylor albums in my youth. It's got a bit more bite than a folk record, a tad more soul than an adult contemporary record, but all the passion of a true songwriter project. It's the audio equivalent to 'comfort food'." - Devon O'Day, Host of Country Hitmakers, and SIRIUS Satellite Radio's

"Bryan Turner - What You're Looking For"

There are only six songs and I was hoping for more. The first track has a nice fun beat. Bryan Turner really knows how to play his instrument; his voice. He reminds me of James Taylor, where his songs are soulful and have a bit of gospel in them." - Erika Ellis, music reviewer for CelebrityCafe.com

"Bryan Turner - What You're Looking For"

Adam Flowers writes, "Bryan Turner's album, 'What You're Looking For' comes across as an album by a talented singer/songwriter. Bryan Turner definitely has a nice voice that lands softly on the ears, and he has a good sense of melody, as well. The vocals are smooth with a touch of soul." On the song, "What You're Looking For", "the music is grooving and goes well with Turner's voice", and "...the guitar solos on (Crossroads) make this the standout track on the album, and it certainly deserves to be on Lightning 100's local spotlight." Bryan Turner's "…songwriting comes across as honest… In fact, that's one of Turner's strongest qualities. Throughout the album his voice and lyrics are believable…"

Murfreesboro musician Bryan Turner wants to blow your doors off.

He said so himself. But Bryan doesn't mean it the way it sounds. That's just his way of expressing the conviction he feels for the power of his live show.

"My live show is where people see me in my element," he said. "My CD is incredible, but if they want to know me, they need to see my show."

And fans will have the opportunity Saturday when Bryan plays Bluesboro at 9 p.m.

"If they come see me live, I'll make the hair on the back of their neck stand up," he said.

Who: Bryan Turner

On stage: 9 p.m. Saturday at Bluesboro, 114 N. Church St. in Murfreesboro. Admission is $6

Bryan Turner music is: Bryan Turner (lead guitar and lead vocals); Michael Brown (bass); and John Shade (drums).

Genre: Soul rock

"We came up with the term 'soul rock,'" said Bess Turner, Bryan's wife. "His lyrics and his vocals are just overwhelming. He's genuine. You can tell he feels the music. And when he gets off stage, he's just a super nice guy. That's why I married him."

"My music fuses soulful vocals with smoking guitar and honest lyrics," Bryan added.

Who the music appeals to:

"He's got fans who are 14," Bess said. "People who are knowledgeable about guitar playing and like to hear someone rock out will like his music. Music buffs are his biggest fans."

What makes Bryan different: "What I do different is that I bring on a high level of energy to the show," he said. "You will see people who are great singers or great guitar players, but rarely both. People are going to feel the music. They are going to feel every lick and every vocal."

A little history:Bryan began his singing career in church at the age of 9 years old.

"Everyone said I had the voice of an angel," he recalled.

At 13, the musician started playing guitar. He modeled his playing after Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, he said. He started songwriting with his father at the age of 17, and 15 years later his dad is his most prolific partner.

"I have this thirst to be on stage and perform," Bryan said. "I think it's my calling."

Cool gigs:Recently Bryan was invited to play a side stage at Starwood Amphitheater during the Willie Nelson/John Fogerty show.

"That was an adolescent dream of mine," he said. "I'd been going there since I could drive, and the crowd was great."

But Bryan explained the moment he would never forget was hearing Fogerty's sound check before the fans were allowed through the gates.

"I was sitting on the edge of the stage before anyone was there," he recalled. "Fogerty was practicing, and I was like 'wow.' I didn't expect the incredible energy I got from his show. I learned a lot from that. I want to bring that energy to my show."

In the works:Bryan's song "Crossroads" is in rotation at WRLT Lightning 100.

"I got to hear my song on the radio for the first time a couple of months ago, and I just started hollering. I pretty much do that every time now."

The singer is also in the process of taping "Not Just Country," a local television show meant to give exposure to local artists who don't consider themselves country musicians. The show will air on UPN.
