"Songs of the Week"

On the third single from his forthcoming sophomore record, the fuzzy Dallas blues rocker continues channeling the same Black Keys’ El Camino vibe we’ve mentioned him following before — although this time he’s adding in big harmony vocals akin to Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, who Bangs has cited as one of his biggest influences in putting pen to paper. - Central Track

"Song Premiere: Taking a Ride"

We have the honor of premiering “Taking a Ride”, the latest single from Dallas native Bryce Bangs. Bangs is preparing for his upcoming self-titled sophomore release on Friday, July 13. Inspired by his time living in Dallas, Bryce showcases a blend of blues, rock, and soul with lyrics straight from the heart in his self-titled album.

Bangs says, “‘Taking a Ride’ is all about living in the moment and breathing in the small things you normally take for granted”.

An eclectic array of music has always inspired Bryce, who grew up inspired by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Ryan Bingham, Notorious B.I.G., Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr. It wasn’t until 2008 when he saw Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights perform that he decided to pursue music wholeheartedly. “Watching that show hit me in the heart, for real,” he said. “The energy, the feeling, the tunes...that show urged me to get serious with music.” - Crate Diggers

"Bryce Bangs On His Self-Titled Sophomore Album"

Dallas native Singer-songwriter Bryce Bangs has a way of mixing a diverse set of influences such as rock and soul. His self-titled sophomore album (released today) showcases a perfected sound made from commitment, experimentation, and organization. But the album digs deeper because of its relatability and Bangs ability to tell a story. Bryce Bangs will debut his album tonight at Granada Theater but the singer took time earlier to speak with us about what brought this album together.

It wasn’t until 2008 that you decided to commit to making music. Can you tell me more about why you decided to start creating music?

I never really thought about seriously pursuing it until I was at school at Texas Tech. I went to the Blue Light, and Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights were playing. That was the first time I heard them, the first time I saw them live, and the energy of their set was so awesome, it looked like they were having so much fun. While they were playing up there, it just sparked something in me. This is what I need to do.

Your new self-titled album showcases blues, rock, and soul influences. Were there any musicians you were inspired by while creating this album?

I don’t like to be one set genre because I feel like I'm growing every day. I’m big into Ryan Bingham, which is Texas Country. But I’m also big into The Notorious B.I.G., his storytelling is unbelievable. It’s little bits and pieces of so many different people that I listen to, and what made me the artists, entertainer, and performer that I am.
When it comes to songwriting you referenced very personal experiences. What made you decide it was time to take these moments and use them to help you create these songs?

When you’re doing a songwriting process, for me, there are some of them that take five minutes to write. I was just inspired. It was right there in that moment, and I had everything that I needed. There are other times where it takes a while. There are some songs that have taken me months, and in some ways years to write. The collection of songs that we have on this record is a true story in its own way. The songs will mean more to me and make even more sense months after I write them. I always try to make it as personal as possible. I want people to feel what I’m feeling when I’m writing.

This album is very well produced, it feels like a lot of time was put into making it sound crisp and clear. How did you make sure this album was ready to be heard? How did you make sure it was something you could feel proud of?

I’m a perfectionist with everything that I do. This record was absolutely no difference. Sam Culp was the producer. He knows how to find these sounds within the instruments. We found this pedal at AudioStyles in Dripping Springs. It’s normally for a bass, and it’s called a Street Fighting Hamster by Old School FX in Victoria, Texas. It’s a pedal that’s a fuzzy sound that I have never heard before. And we used that for about every song on the record. That set a huge tone for the direction that we were going to go. Sam and I started doing pre-production sessions and writing sessions about four months leading up to the studio recording. We had a plan. We had five days to track twelve songs, and we did it all, but it was because we were organized, and we knew exactly what we wanted.

What do you want people takeaway from this album? What do you want people to learn about you as an artist?

I wanted it to be self-titled because this is me. There is going to be at least one song that every single person is going to find that they like. I put a lot into this. Blood, sweat, and tears into writing this and making it what it is. People will listen to it, starting at the first track listening all the way through to number ten, and they will hear that story. I lined those songs up so that it tells a story from beginning to end.

What can we expect from your album release show on July 13th at Granada Theater?

We’ve got a lot of special things in store. There are only ten songs that are on the record, but we are playing sixteen to seventeen songs. So, there are a lot of things that people haven't heard before, even newer songs that we have written since we have recorded this record. It’s going to be a great show, and I cannot wait for it. This is probably going to be one of the best nights of my life. - Crate Diggers Dallas

"Best New Music In Dallas"

Bryce Bangs — "Chasing That Gold"
Singer-songwriter Bryce Bangs is fresh off playing a sold-out show at the Granada Theater in which he heavily from his recently released self-titled album. With a stop-in-your-tracks voice and a blues-tinged backing band rollicking behind him, Bangs seems poised for a breakthrough. His songs, like the swampy "Chasing That Gold" and the sinewy "Belmont Tiff," echo Jack White-esque garage rock. He's also capable of wallowing in the blues with drink-induced ache, an act sharply achieved on "Oh Whiskey, Please." Plus, his name is perfect for music stardom. The Dallasite will likely perform locally again soon, so you'll have chances to check him out while the star is rising. - Dallas Observer

Bio

Do you ever hear something, and know that it's meant to be?

Capturing an audience whole-heartedly, Dallas rocker Bryce Bangs combines a style of blues, rock and soul, with so much passion, you can't help but to be under a spell of fascination.

Combining his cigarette laden voice and commanding guitar riffs, the result is something of a big blues baby mixed with Gary Clark Jr, Ryan Bingham, and Jack White - His lyrics are clever, melodies catchy and unpredictable, and the vocal sound of a velvet two tone Cadillac.

Bangs' self titled album, released July 2018, is heavy hitting from beginning to end. Singles "Chasing That Gold," "Belmont Tiff," and "Taking a Ride" start off the record. A classic blues drinking song "Oh Whiskey, Please" will have you crying and drunk by the end of the day.

Take a seat and hold on tight. This will be a ride you don't want to miss.
