Album: Boom Bang City

Bryce Aubrey's latest release Boom Bang City falls on nostalgic ears like blissful early-90s sampler. New Hampshire native Aubrey juxtaposes the rusty vocals of Dinosaur Jr.'s Lou Barlow with the jaded laments of borderline emo-pop, ultimately creating an all-out indie-grunge love fest. On tracks like Seven Days, the composition is both relaxed and referential: Aubrey sticks to a straight forward guitar-keys-drum kit formula and manages to incorporate a bizarre assortment of musical links which range from Neil Young to the Beatles to the B52s. As a result, the listener is left with a bopping, flannel-friendly soundtrack worthy of any latter-day Reality Bites fan. - MegD
