Bio

Bryce Jacobs is a unique and eclectic musician who writes and performs his own brand of hybrid soundtrack music, which lies somewhere between pop, electronic and orchestral genres in a very film orientated setting. Heavily influenced by bands and artists such as The Police, U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tool, Peter Gabriel, The Beatles, Nine Inch Nails, Muse, The Killers, among others. Bryce has cultivated his own unique blend of hybrid genre calling upon more external influences to color his musical imagery. Artists such as Debussy, Wagner, Beethoven, Stravinski, Rachmaninov and Gorecki in the classical stream, and Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, John McLaughlin, George Benson and Charlie Christian in jazz circles, all swim in and out of the sound world Bryce produces.

After completing a Bachelor of Music in Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Bryce returned 18 months later to undertake a Masters in Composition (completed in March of 2008). It was during this time of study that Bryce realized that his long love and infatuation of film music was to now be his focus in all his musical output from this point on.

In his dedication to writing from such an eclectic base, came the development of a guitar of his own design based on the range and capabilities of a piano. Facilitating the transcription of piano music faithfully onto a guitar, this instrument is a new and exciting platform to write and perform any style of music. The writing and arranging of new material for this instrument compliments the area of hybrid film orientated music Bryce is continually developing.

Bryce also performs with his band everything from new wave infused progressive pop tunes, to full scale band/orchestral works with pre-programmed samples. Performances at times are enhanced by sympathetic visuals that are projected behind the performing band, providing a reverse soundtrack experience. With rich harmonic journeys through the many colors and shapes of such a myriad of styles, Bryce and his band provide their audience with a completely engaging and exciting entertainment environment for the audience to be submerged into. A forty minute set can morph unified through a vast array of shapes and colors, yet the music as a whole is largely constructed by smaller more pop/rock orientated songs.

While working as a musician for Josh Pyke and Genevieve Maynard as well as international artist such as Sophie B. Hawkins, Bryce has been continually writing, orchestrating, performing and producing his own music. With his solid focus on working in film, Bryce has worked on many soundtracks including such features as Gabriel, Jumper, Bitter & Twisted, Happy Feet, and P.S. I Love You, among others in varying musical roles, from writing and orchestration to performance and production. Bryce's musical output provides a soundscape that features lush vocal harmonies, layered guitars, guitar synthesizer textures, tightly grooving bass lines and a powerhouse of electro/acoustic drumming and percussion. Whatever the vision or situation requires, Bryce moulds the music to suit the present need. As can be seen by the vast range of influences above, Bryce enjoys versatile sounds and commits himself to creating an alternate path to follow as a result of the culmination of these influences and all others he constantly encounters in everyday life (musical or otherwise). Bryce’s music creates a synergy of sound that, whether written to vision or in isolation, expresses emotion and purpose beautifully and uniquely in any given context.
