Bubbly Joe

Bubbly Joe

 Jacksonville, Florida, USA
BandRockReggae

The music we play is a blend of rock, blues, ska, punk, ambience, jazz and jam band sounds stirred up into a doubleshot and dropped into a 16 oz cup full of reggae. Many people have said "you just have to hear it" when asked what we sound like.

Biography

Bubbly Joe began two years ago when Colin, who was born to sing, met a badass slap n pop, Les Claypool style bassist named Kevin and introduced him to Krandall, an acoustic guitarist/songwriter and jam band bassist who had been playing with Colin for 4 years already. From the first jam on, a strong foundation for the band was set. Line-up changes were made and made again, with the band finally settling on an insane heavy-metal drummer in Spencer and a party-starting percussionist with Brian.

The band first showcased their good-time, in your face, make you dance and blow your mind live style at a highschool battle of the bands. They did not win, which is not suprising considering all of the voters (the crowd) went home after their performance, which received a standing ovation.

After that, it was weekly gigs playing Reggae Sundays at a local restaurant called Ragland's. After a few months honing their skills there, Bubbly Joe was booked to play at a Supervillains show in November of 08. This would be their first real, real gig, as well as a huge kick-start to the band's local career.

Since that show, Bubbly Joe has played at 11 different venues in 3 different cities, as well as one music festival, and are currently scheduled to play in 2 new cities as well. They have shared the stage with acts like Mystic Roots, Pato Banton, Zach Deputy, Passafire, Authority Zero, The Mighty Diamonds, Badfish, and The Dirty Heads, and garnered fans from across the country.

The band's influences come from across a wide range of genres and include names like Jimi Hendrix, Rx Bandits, Slayer, Les Claypool, Catch 22, Sublime, The Grateful Dead, People Under the Stairs, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Victor Wooten, Keller Williams, The B Foundation, Slightly Stoopid, Martin, Medeski & Wood, Atmosphere, Led Zeppelin, Tea Leaf Green, Bargain Music, The Ziggens, The Presidents of the United States, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Lyrics

Concrete Bear

Written By: Matt Randall

Walkin' down the street in some long blue sleeves,
With a hat atop his head and a beard down to his knees,
Just strolling along to the music in his ears,
It must help to block out all those voices that he hears

And he's all alone,
It must get lonely when you ain't got no home,
But he keeps fighting on,
Livin' his own way 'til the fight is gone

Must've been breakfast time so he strolled on through the lot,
Hadn't changed his clothes in weeks said those shoes were starting to rot,
Rooting through the trash can trying to find a bite to eat,
Dirt all across his back from sleeping in the street

And he's all alone,
It must get lonely when you ain't got no home,
But he keeps fighting on,
Livin' his own way 'til the fight is gone

Where I'm From

Written By: Matt Randall/Colin Paterson

Sittin' here on this trailer hitch,
I'm singing my songs and missin' my woman,
Oh Lord she's my woman
Got a 40 oz by my side,
I got the key in the ignition and I'm ready to ride,
It's just another day in Paradise
But when everything is perfect nothing's as it seems,
The people be plottin' and the Piggy's are schemin',
You can't get away with anything

'Cause where I'm from
Where I'm from
We only smoke that natural herb
Put a seed in the ground let it sprout from the earth

'Cause God made weed and man made cocaine,
The Devil made heroin to drive the people insane,
Man made crack, and Man made booze,
You'll stumble if you're walking in a drunk man's shoes,
Eve made virgins, and Adam made whores,
Ghandi made peace, and Hitler made war,
Marley made love for the whole wide world,
and Money through it away, said he spent it on some white girl

Got a half ounce of crippie and a couple of brews,
Rollin' our sacks in Jokers and singin' our tunes,
Smokin' out a town near you soon
'Cause when it's good it's good,
And when it's dry it's dry,
But no matter what kind of day it is we never hang our head and cry
Well is funky on your side of town?
Cause if it is girl you know I'll be around

'Cause where I'm from
Where I'm from
We only smoke that natural herb
Put a seed in the ground let it sprout from the earth

'Cause God made weed and man made cocaine,
The Devil made heroin to drive the people insane,
Man made crack, and Man made booze,
You'll stumble if you're walking in a drunk man's shoes,
Eve made virgins, and Adam made whores,
Ghandi made peace, and Hitler made war,
Marley made love for the whole wide world,
and Money through it away, said he spent it on some white girl

KFC

Scratchy notes comin' through the radio,
Speakers unplugged got no where to go,
And time just for a minute stands still
It's a roll of the dice yeah a flick of the hands,
To decide a world which none understand,
And as the numbers fall so do we
So if the time has come and it's time for change,
Then let ourselves not be rearranged,
To where we cannot be pieced together again

Well the night has fallen but the dawn will tell,
Whether we live in freedom or a prison cell,
And yesterday is slowly slippin' away
'Cause we braved the storm with uncovered eyes,
Left our ears open to receive the lies,
And now we pray that that's all they were meant to be
But there's nothin' to do but look into space,
Stare up at the stars and ponder our fate,
Like a slave who's master has gone and sold him away

Midnight Soul Train

Written By: Matt Randall

Fresh perfume nothing under her dress,
She's dirty to the bone like a last caress,
Got a secret in her smile that'll make ya scream,
Adding fuel to the fire with some gasoline,
I tend to get lost in those deep dark eyes,
When I'm movin' the rhythm inbetween her thighs,
She's a midnight lover with the sweet recipe,
She makes it so fresh, hot and tasty

She's a backseat beauty don't know where to begin,
And she gives me the loving that, never ends
Think innocence with a sexual twist,
She likes to get on her knees, and suck my kiss

So come and take a ride,
On my midnight soul train
Lay your body down,
By the passionate flames
'Cause it feels so right, darling
Just to touch your skin
So roll on over baby,
And let Big Papa in

Screaming like a Siren in the middle of the night,
Makin' love, smokin' bud make ya feel so right,
Who needs time, we got all the time in the world,
'Cause the clock just stops when I'm inside of you girl
She likes to get naughty when the sun goes down,
Movin' her hips all night to the funky reggae sounds,
Front, back, top to bottom and side to side,
You can't go to Disney and get this kind of ride

Dark room, locked door, clothes on the floor,
Heavy breathin' best believin' that she's begging for more,
And I said uhh, and the girl carressed me down,
Uhh, and that's that lovin' sound

So come and take a ride,
On my midnight soul train
Lay your body down,
By the passionate flames
'Cause it feels so right, darling
Just to touch your skin
So roll on over baby,
And let Big Papa in

The Reaper

Written By: Colin Paterson/Matt Randall

Walking this town,
With my eyes shut tight,
Waitin' for the Reaper,
To find me tonight,
He's walkin' around,
With a vengeful mind,
Taking all of those,
Who aren't my kind, but he's
Killing blind,
Just like a desperate man,
And you don't have to believe, to understand,
That the sun's going down, and the Grim is a-reapin'
The people in the town, are wailing and weeping,
Oh no,
Here we go

Extra Extra! Read all about it!
The Reaper's in town, so everyone shout it
Please Mr. Reaper don't take my soul,
There's so much in this world I have left to know,
So Mr. Reaper don't take me away,
You've got the wrong guy, today's not my day,
So when you go back, you're not taking me,
I won't give up that easily

The sun goes down,
And the fire starts burning
The people in the churches,
Are praying and yearning, for a
Calm night,
Just one to survive,
Just one more chance,
To see the sun rise
'Cause when it shines well it don't shine long,
And the terrors going on while I sing this song
'Cause the sun's going down, and the Grim is a-reapin'
The people in the town, are wailing and weeping,
Oh no,
Here we go

So when you go back, you're not taking me,
I won't give up that easily

Have reason to fear,
The time time is coming near,
In another couple minutes the darkness will be here,
You won't feel no hope,
Or feel no cheer,
Just the shape of a skeleton sillhouetted in the mirror
He's a spiteful death,
And he's risen from the grave,
To embark upon a quest to re-instate his name,
He's bringing the pain,
To the people that be singin while he's bringin the rain,
Nuerotic and deranged
With a functioning brain,
But certainly not insane,
He's bringing fame to the game, of killing in the name
So you better watch your back,
For his point of attack,
With a smile on his skull he'll smear your blood on the facts
'Cause the sun's going down, and the Grim is a-reapin'
The people in the town, are wailing and weeping,
Oh no,
Here we go

Singing With the Devil

Written By: Matt Randall

Well I was sittin' on the porch one day,
When I heard this funky rhythm start to play,
Thought to myself where can I find that,
'Cause the beat was right and you can't mind that
Looked around the corner and what do I see?
A pair of red eyes staring back at me,
A mic in his hand, and claws on his feet,
The Devil spit the beat then he started to speak,

He said
There's a party going on,
Just thought I'd let ya know,
If you show up at the gates we won't, make you go
'Cause we heard you got the rhythm,
Yeah we heard you got the sound,
And I think you already heard we got the best fire around

So I was singing with the Devil,
You know he sould me his soul,
Said he was getting tired,
Just wanted to, let it go
So kick down the treble,
Let the bassline flow,
Hey there pretty baby,
Won't you come to my show

So I was chillin' in Hell you see,
'Cause the party was bumpin' and the drinks were free,
And all the fine girls out on the dance floor,
Shootin' dirty looks, yeah I'm bound to score,
But one thought in my head as I looked around,
If Hell is so bad why does noone look down?
The Devil must've read my thoughts somehow,
'Cause he came sat down and said "how do ya like this town?"

So I asked the Devil,
"Yo what is Heaven like?"
He said It's one hell, of a paradise
But there ain't no sinnin' allowed,
So the angels all come down,
To party with us in Hell,
We got the best fire around
