The Buchanan Boys have a deep rooted history in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Chris and Neal both have families that settled in the area over 100 years ago. When the two met they discovered that they both had grandfathers with the name Frank H. Buchanan. They were two different men that lived a few miles away from each other in Jackson County NC, thus the name The Buchanan Boys, a tribute to their grandpas. The band members actually met in 2006 when The Summit Church formed in Sylva NC. The non-denominational church was looking for musician to form a rock band to perform worship music. Chris was a natural to lead the band since he had experience playing in bands his entire life. He had success in the 90’s with a band called Native Tongue. They shared the stage with the likes of Hootie and the Blowfish. He then moved on to Dallas TX where he worked with members from the band Deep Blue Something. Adam and Michael were brought on for guitar and drums. They were students at WCU in Cullowhee at the time. Adam brings a wealth of knowledge on guitar and has taught for several years. Some of his biggest influences are U2 and The Allman Brothers. He can shred just about any style of music out there. Michael is also a very experienced musician. He holds a Music Industry degree from WCU and is not only a phenomenal percussionist but knows music theory in and out. He is a great arranger, recording engineer and producer. Neal came along to help fill in on rhythm guitar and harmonies. He has been playing in bands since he was kid and has worked in the music industry over a decade. He holds a degree in Music Entertainment Management from The Art Institute of Atlanta and books national touring acts in western NC. It wasn’t until a stormy night when the band of four prayed for a fifth member to complete the circle. The sky split and a naked baby fell to the earth. An hour later, the child grew into a 24 year old man with a bass guitar in his right hand and a bottle of whiskey in his left. They called him Sam. Influenced by bassists like Les Claypool and P-Nut, Sam brings his own unique style to the already eclectic mix. Michael, Adam, and Sam were playing in a rock band called Almost Kinetic while Chris and Neal began performing in local venues as a country acoustic duo. In late 2009 when Almost Kinetic disbanded the five dudes decided to form a country band in addition to the band that was performing at church. Thus, The Buchanan Boys were born. Since then, the band has seen success from playing in local bars to taking the stage at large festivals in the NC/TN/GA region, playing Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, The Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville, TN and sharing the stage with local country star Matt Stillwell at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.
