Bio

Bagpipes, buckets and African drums play Celtic melodies to Latin and African rhythms. Young musicians with presence and pizzazz put years of competition and performance experience to work as they create an unusual and entertaining ensemble.

The Bucket Men started as an outgrowth of a junior bagpipe band in Seattle, playing "The Bucket Salute" at Highland games during the pipe band competition season in 2005. Drum director and composer, Steve Roy, began composing more and more challenging music for his drummers. When he incorporated bagpipe tunes into their drumming, the BucketMen were born.

At first they performed only in concert with the bagpipe band. But by the Fall of 2005, they branched out to half time activities with the Seattle Sounders and busking at festivals and fairs. By 2007 they were invited to entertain for summer parks concerts, the opening of a community transit station, at a community Christmas festival, at EMP (Paul Allen's Experience Music Project), and chosen for a student arts showcase.

They have begun recording their first CD which they plan to release in the late summer after their bagpipe band, the NorthWest Junior Pipe Band, returns home after competing in the World Bagpipe Band Championships in Glasgow Scotland. NWJPB is the first youth band from Seattle to take part in that prestigious event.
