"Take My Breath Away by Tim Taylor"

“You amaze me somehow, you amaze me now”. So goes a line from Huntsville band buckler’s new single, and indeed this group does “take my breath away”. Mixing power pop and alternative rock, plus a pinch of R&B inflected rhythms, buckler is a five-piece band with a distinct sound and inspiring songs. Buckler was originally founded in Atlanta by singer-songwriter / frontman Lance Gilbreath. Most importantly, these are good songs, songs with lyrical depth and musical integrity. This can be seen in “Take My Breath Away”, released (with a bonus track) in anticipation of buckler’s forthcoming full-length debut.“Take My Breath Away” is not the old Berlin song (recently un-covered by Jessica Simpson), but rather, a modern rock hook-fiesta that also manages to be atmospheric. The song begins with a strumming guitar, then Lance enters with some slightly distorted speak-singing, which combined with the string arrangements give the intro an eerily positive vibe. After this, the song finally gets in gear with a heavy, funky groove and some robust psychedelic riffs. The chorus to this song is uber-catchy, with excellent melodic vocals. Also, near the end there are some timely backing vocals and sweet harmonies, including some fun “whoa-oh-ohs”.The bonus track on this disc is a driving, hook-laden tune called “No No Never”. It has a cool, funky intro, a soaring chorus that hits hard, and excellent vocals, particularly the passionate man-on-a-mission repetition of “NO NO NO NO NO Never!” This passion extends to the lyrics as a whole, which are just as ambitious as those in “Take My Breath Away”. Lance sings: “I searched the whole world over and never did I find / anyone so true to the very words you have spoken / now I bring to you my heart that’s broken”. Buckler, while influenced by many bands, has its own identity, primarily due to Lance Gilbreath’s stunning vocals but also due to the R&B elements and hard rock edge. As evidenced on these two songs, this band has clearly honed its craft and plays with a melodic intensity rarely seen in modern rock. Check them out at www.bucklermusic.com. - Birmingham Buzz

Bio

In a time where many new artists are nothing more than copycat versions of their peers, Buckler is bursting onto the scene with a passion that hasn’t been felt in quite a while. Buckler’s music is a penetration of melodic energy. Driven with passion, their music flows with rhythmic and overflowing intensity. As songwriters and musicians, Buckler has no fear of musical genre, singing from a warm tone to a smooth rockin’ growl, from a whisper to a frenzy of rock guitars. Blending musical inspiration from numerous styles, but not limited to, Rock, Alternative, and Indie. Each song, written by Lance Gilbreath, is original and covers diverse topics. Buckler is pushing the envelope in creative sound, every second expanding the boundaries of music. Some critics even dare to claim that they have the potential to make a mark on humanity with their music and be the next U2. “A part of creativity is pushing beyond your limits, stumbling along the way, and discovering something beautiful. Walking in creativity is where we choose to remain. We hope our songs speak and relate to people in a genuine way, revealing our imperfections but offering hope to overcome.”

July 12, 2004, found Buckler playing at home in Huntsville, AL at a concert in the park honoring all Armed Forces of America. An estimated crowd of over 6,000 were touched by the smooth lyrics and rocking beats Buckler delivered. They closed the show with their soulful ballad “Take My Breath Away,” and by the end of the song the crowd sang the chorus back to the band. Buckler front man, Lance Gilbreath, held the mic out over the crowd as their voices united and echoed through the streets of Huntsville. This was a defining moment for Buckler; they knew this was the start of something so much bigger than just them.

Buckler has created a huge buzz across the country in an amazingly short period of time, playing everywhere from intimate club settings to 25,000 seat arenas. They have played shows in 46 states and 7 countries. Inspired by a need to “A need to give back to the people who fight for my freedom, allowing me to live in a country where I can live out my dreams”, Buckler has played over 60 shows just for the troops. They have a grueling touring schedule playing over 250 shows per year. As busy as their schedule has been, Buckler still manages to find time to play benefit concerts for those less fortunate and has done several radio and television appearances. They have been on the cover of many newspapers and publications. With a fan base over 50,000, and growing, they have proven that they are here to stay.

In June of 2006, Buckler will be recording with Duane Lundy at Dark Horse Studios in Nashville Tenn. Their first single “Rise and Shine Hero” (set for a July 2006 release) is sure to be a hit with its lyrics echoing the waves of patriotism and heroism flowing across our nation.
