Buddy Akai

Buddy Akai has been making the high heeled, converse stomping, electro popping kiddies dance to their rocking beats since February of 2005. Their sound can be described as a mix of indie/electro/rock. They mix in samples, sequences, arpegiated synths and processed vocals but still they manage to keep it rocking.

The decidedly underground party beats elevate classic rock to a new synthetic era that unites the club and indie-rock crowd with an electronic edge.

Buddy Akai offers a playful reinterpretation of their influences. Ranging from The Rapture to The Killers, their askew spin resurrects classic tones, but speaks only in organic rhythms.

The dance floor contingent consciously contrasts with Memo’s bittersweet lyrics that walk the road between autobiographical truth and hypnotic innovation. Memo evokes a range of emotions rooted in the past and present that twist and mold around a dark lens into the unforeseen surreal.

Their self titled debut record has met an amazing response and has been reviewd by Bulbo TV and Lattitude 32. It was produced and mastered by Uriel Esquenazi, an international DJ/Producer who has worked with various artists like Plastilina Mosh, ZOE and Thievery Corporation.

Their show is a must see, an electrifying and energetic experience.

Buddy Akai headlines local San Diego venues such as Beauty Bar, The Casbah, SOMA, and Brick by Brick. They also frequent The House of Blues, Wave House, and Club Spaceland in LA and El Foro/BoxUnderground in TJ. Buddy Akai is a resident performer at Rawkerz Saturdays at Beauty Bar in Las Vegas, was a featured performer at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas and was awarded best Southern California band at the Best Buy Battle of the Bands in October of 2005. You can catch Buddy Akai on San Diego radio stations FM94.9 , 91x and L.A. Station Indie 103.1 and local television stations LATV, FOX6, TJ Underground, Fuel TV and Fusion TV.
