Buenos Diaz is the musical alter ego of Houston native Nick Diaz, an “alligator cowboy rock and roller” who comes off as a little Elvis Costello, a little Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Diaz sampled the sights of NYC, New Orleans, L.A. and San Francisco before settling in Austin, where he won more than a few pats on the back for 2014’s The Love Balloon. His brand-new sophomore release, the Urbanized New Wave Texican, is heavy on the double-barreled bong-rock with a side of smirking irony that puts him closer to the great “Detachable Penis” artist King Missile. Put “Sophisticated Gentleman” on your playlist immediately. - Houston Press
Wednesday you can get going over at Raven Tower for a set from Austin’s Buenos Diaz. So, technically this guy is from Houston, but he’s been doing his thing in Austin for a good while now. The Buenos Diaz sound is basically what Elvis Costello would’ve sounded like if he’d been born in the Southern states. It’s good stuff for sure, his live shows are always on point, and his last release Urbanized New Wave Texican is pretty amazing. The all ages show has doors at 6 pm and it’s 100% FREE. - Free Press Houston
There is a constant flow of superb music videos coming out of our hometown of Austin, TX these days and we always love sharing local talent! Today's video comes from self-proclaimed "Urbanized New Wave Texican" band Buenos Diaz. "Love Insanity" features heavy fuzzed-out Rock n' Roll bass, wailing 80's electric guitar, driving Rock drums, psychedelic spoken word promoting an all-out reign of love, and a chorus of layered harmonies courtesy of lead singer Nick Diaz's anthemic pop vocals. The video is a drugged-out ride featuring trippy acid-induced visuals and an epic thrashed-out jam session. Dig in friends! - See/Saw Music Blog
Over at The Big Top, Houston born, but now an Austin resident, Nick Diaz will bring his eclectic solo sounds to life under the moniker Buenos Diaz. Like a mix of Americana, electro pop, and bluesy hook filled rock, Buenos Diaz is one of the more impressive live acts you can catch coming from the state capitol today. His last album, last year’s “Urbanized New Wave Texican” is just a small glimpse into his crazy and catchy sound. The 21 and up show gets started at 10 pm and it’s 100% FREE. - Free Press Houston

Bio
Nick Diaz's life journey and musical ventures have led him to travel to New Orleans, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and his current home of Austin, Texas. Along the way it seems that although his environment changed, the tribulations of love and intimacy would always remain a constant, as expressed on his 2014 EP, The Love Balloon. The roots rock outfit of Buenos Diaz bring a refreshing interpretation to one of the most respectable movements in American music, staying true to the staples of old school blues melody, without being pretentious and never losing sight of having a good time.
Nick Diaz immersed himself in the culture of classic Texas Rock n' Roll at an early age, studying the music of legends like Jimmy Vaughn, Ian Moore and T Bone Walker while becoming a part of the Houston blues scene. Nick began to learn the guitar without the assistance of a mentor or school program, using his pure appreciation for the music he grew up with as his drive to develop as a songwriter. His performance skills eventually led him to be a part of the production team for David Fishof's Rock and Roll & Roll Fantasy Camp and play for a multitude of high profile acts, until he moved to San Francisco. After spending time reflecting on the relationships, break-ups, and musical developments of his travels, he moved to Austin to begin working on his first release as Buenos Diaz.
2015 saw Buenos Diaz expand its repertoire with the sophomore release, Urbanized New Wave Texican. "Heavy on the double-barreled bong-rock with a side of smirking irony, this release put him closer to the great “Detachable Penis” artist King Missile." Recorded in Dripping Springs, Tx with local producer Steven Collins, UNWT dove into more sound exploration adding synths, long drawn out reverbs and a variety of different delays and distortions. The release party was held during ACL weekend to a capacity crowd at Stay Gold, a popular venue in the hip east side neighborhood of Austin, with various members of TV on the Radio in attendance.
2016 has seen Buenos Diaz continue the forward movement with the release of "1 2 3 4" during a late night interview with the local Austin radio station, 91.7 KVRX. Recorded to an all analog format with White Denim front of house engineer and local producer Daniel McNeil, "1 2 3 4" is the first single to be released from the upcoming full length album do out in early 2017 and explores a more retro lo-fi sound reminiscent of early Daptone, recordings.
