Bio

Tom C. Coleman known on stage as “Asa Buchanon” from the Bronx, began as a fan of music before he even knew what it was. At the age of 13 he started djing with neighborhood friends and just one year later at the age of 14, he decided to pick up the mic. As his emceeing became serious, he needed beats for his rhymes, but wasn’t able to find anyone to produce him, so, he had to make his own. Influenced by the late '80s through the late '90s hip hop, Asa has had two releases from Earplay Entertainment and an indie label owned by him and his brother, Akin “Ock” Jackson, through the years of building his craft, from 1995 - 1999. Always trying to give people something to keep their attention, Asa is aware these days that everything is instant (“just add water”) so with his production, he tries to keep it A.D.D. proof. “My intention is to always give you something new and something fresh from the start of the record, and hopefully cross genres with some eclectic blends of sound.” When it’s all said and done, “Bugnanas” (his album with fellow producer and friend Ricardo Isaac, “Phase One” ) would like to inspire and encourage whoever listens to it that they’re trying to build a path of their own. “We’re not trying to save the world of music, but we definitely would love to be the catalyst of breaking the monotony,” says Asa.

Ricardo Isaac, known to the music world as “Phase One” from the Bronx, began emceeing at the young age of 11 or 12 and began taking it seriously in 1998/99 as far as recording and performing. Influenced by the early 90s - 2000, Phase released the album “Hip Hop, Rap, The Taboo, Life Music & Soul,” which was a breaking the ice album, displaying a raw sense of lyricism among emcees. From 2002 - 2005, he performed all over New York City, as well as in Virginia, Boston, and North Carolina on the indie scene, perfecting his craft and stage performance. Also appearing on live albums by different indie artists and a few mixtapes, during that time, Phase recorded random songs that have since reached Israel and even Africa. In 2006/07, he released the mixtape “Phasing the Music” which was a more diverse piece of work, both sonically and lyrically and from 2007 - 2009, Isaac has been recording “De Ja Vu All Over Again” which was put on hold due to life’s trials and circumstances. Phase was also part of the album “Bugnanas,” in which he selected tracks, wrote, and mixed with fellow producer and friend “Asa Buchanon.” Phase’s intentions and aspirations regarding “Bugnanas” and his future music are to mainly bring a level of dignity, character, and fun within the music without having to compromise one’s sense of self to attain success, while showing it’s very possible to get it. “People are always looking for the next new thing or rather just something fresh and refreshing. I feel I have great, spirit and a colorful soul that translates in my character daily for those that meet me,” explains Phase. “Since art often imitates life, therefore that spirit and soul reflects through song and performance. Who wouldn’t want to hear the results of that within a world driven by pain & anguish. Rain is good and needed, but too much of it isn’t, so the sun has to come out eventually.”
