Bio

Songwriter Paul Parkhill uses the volatile backdrop of outer borough New York to paint a picture of wartime America and the struggles of middle-class life in a rapidly gentrifying town. Parkhill, who works a day job as an urban planner and community activist, conflates personal, geographical and political themes throughout the album, pulling out surprising connections between industrial decline, marriage and children, American empire, cultural evangelism, McCarthyism and urban redevelopment. Guitarist Derek Denckla, a veteran of the DC indie hardcore scene of the late-1980s (including the bands Geek and Choke) teases out both the melodic and dischordant strains of the songs, creating a wailing, playful commentary on Parkhill's songs. Bassist Carl Hum (Never on Sunday) provides an industrial groove that bridges Denckla's and Parkhill's frantic guitars to drummer Dan Spagna's offbeat Keith Moonish drum parts. Building Six began taking shape in mid-2004 and has been playing consistantly in New York City since mid-2005. Record 1 will be available through the Vague Moon website (www.vaguemoon.com) and CD Baby in October 2006.
