"Small Town Girl"

By Marilee Johnson News Editor
Describing herself as a "small town girl", Burgandy Brown is a singer and songwriter with some big city dreams.
Fresh on the release of her first album, Brown and her band will be one of the inaugural "Burnin' Blacktop Rally," scheduled for Fri.- Sun., Sept. 7-9 at the Logan County Fairgrounds and sponsored by the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Marketing Committee. Brown grew up in the small town of Lindon in Washington County. She went to the Woodlin School until High School were she and her family moved to Denver. Burgandy attended the Denver School of the Arts for a few years and received private lessons for years, but she credits the start of her singing career to her even younger years when she sang in church. "That's what got me," Brown said. "I knew it was something I wanted to pursue." The aspiring performer started writing music in high school. She wrote her first song as a freshman; that song, "Don't Lie to Me," was included on "Eastern Plain," a four-song EP that she did in 2004. "Before that I think music was for of just a hobby for me, "Burgandy said, "but then i started turning into a real passion." Brown said she sang for her mother, who was previously in the music business. "She took me to a producer, and I did a four-song CD with video about five years ago,: Burgandy noted. "Then a year and a half ago, we got the band together and have been working ever since." Brown's band includes Dani Harrison, EJ Worden and Bryan Dennis. Their first album, "My Lucky 13," was released early this summer. Brown's music has been described as something that comes across like an old friend - a friend who's been there and understands. Burgandy seems to have an eclectic array of fans that spans everything from her own dance driven peers to good ol' rock and roll lovers and even the most discriminating old school country die hards. "My music is kind of a mix of pop, rock and country," Brown said. "It's something that's new, got a good sound to it and with a lot of heart and soul behind the music." The songs, she explained are either written by her or by Dennis or co-written between the two. "I write about life experiences," she said. "I had to go through a lot, had to struggle and get by, so that's where my writing comes from. It speaks from the heart. But when it comes to writing or performing, Brown has to pick the latter as her favorite. "I just like perfoming," she said. "I love to write, but there are times i have dry spells, so to speak. I feel I have to live life a bit more to be able to write about life. "I never have a dry spell in performing," Brown added. "The show has to go on, you can't really call in sick. "I just enjoy being on stage," she said. "I love performing, meeting our fans and talking with people." - Sentinel - Sterling, CO 9/5/07

"Burgandy Brown, Denver - Based Singer-Songwriter, Rolls 'My Lucky 13' with a Genre-Bursting Mix of Acoustic and Electric Country, Pop, Rock and Alternative Tracks"

The striking cover of Burgandy Brown's (www.myspace.com/Burgandybrown) debut CD My Lucky 13 shows her in fully defiant, cowgirl mode against a backdrop of Stars & Stripes, like a female equivalent of country rocker Toby Keith. But ask anyone who's seen the singer-songwriter and her band play on their home turf in the Denver area-this is just one side of her eclectic musical personality.

Brown grew up on her grandparents' Colorado farm listening to their Elvis, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams, Jr. albums as well as her mom's Aerosmith, Motley Crue and Def Leppard discs. Completely defying conventional musical industry wisdom that says an artist must choose only one genre, she combines elements from all these influences into a dynamic 13-track recording that's got it all.

Brown captures the trailblazing spirit of many of today's indie artists and creates her own new wave of music. Since the radio campaign for My Lucky 13 began in August, an incredible, unprecedented total of five singles have been getting significant airplay in different parts of the U.S. and as far away as the Virgin Islands in a multitude of formats--Hot AC, AC, Rock, Top 40 and Country.

Folks on the East Coast are hearing the beautiful ballad "Out Here" and the feisty post-breakup song "Set It Off," while Midwesterners are enjoying the optimistic toe-tapper "Basics" and "Lady Like," a jamming ode to Brown's lifelong pride over being a tomboy at heart. West Coast listeners are enjoying the summery nostalgia of "Slip N Slide." Brown also has a major support system in Denver's local country station 92.5 The Wolf, which earlier this year asked her to be the evening's entertainment at a party welcoming their new morning DJs.

Brown, who recorded her first EP Eastern Plains right out of high school in 2004, says she's also a fan of rap music and recently wrote some rap and hip-hop tunes that may make the cut on a future recording. "The whole thing is that I don't limit myself as a songwriter," she says. "My passion for many different kinds of music plays a vital role because I'll often force myself to write outside my usual comfort zone."

"Ft. Huachuca"

BURGANDY BROWN
DENVER BASED SINGER-SONGWRITER TO PERFORM FOR THE TROOPS AT
ARIZONA’S FT. HUACHUCA, FRIDAY DECEMBER 14TH , 7:00 PM

Singer-songwriter Burgandy Brown’s (www.myspace.com/Burgandybrown) is set to perform a special concert at Ft. Huachuca, the major military installation in Arizona that is home to the US Army Intelligence Center and School. Her show for the military personnel stationed there, their family friends and the public will take place on Friday, December 14, at 7:00 PM. Brown will perform cuts from her debut CD My Lucky 13 , the cover of which shows her in fully defiant, cowgirl mode against a backdrop of Stars & Stripes, like a female equivalent of tough country rocker Toby Keith.

“I’m excited to be performing for the troops at Ft Huachuca. It’s my way of thanking them for their service!” says Brown.

Daring to think outside the box and follow her own instincts, Brown captures the trailblazing spirit of many of today’s indie artists and creates her own new wave of music. And it’s paying off big time. Since the radio campaign for My Lucky 13 began in August, an incredible, unprecedented total of five singles have been getting significant airplay in different parts of the U.S. and as far away as the Virgin Islands in a multitude of formats—Hot AC, AC, Rock, Top 40 and Country.

"Burgandy Brown"

Burgandy Brown has the potential to put Denver on the
country rock map with her great voice, good songs and dynamite band! I first heard about "BB" from my good friend and former "D
& the C's" bassist, Julian Anderson. For those of you who
don't know, Jules is back in Denver and laying down the bass for
Burgandy! Can you say, "Partay!"? - Dick Ramada

"Tao Engine Philms"

When we began to look for uplifting music for our documentary
one song stopped us in our tracks. The song entitled "Out Here" by Burgandy Brown
spoke to us in a way that hardly any other music had. It's massive sound and heartfelt vocals
was just what we needed to bring emotion to the documentary. The film is about organ donorship and transplant
awareness and is being produced as a gift for the James Redford Insitute, so quality and high artistic content is a must. What's more is that when approached, Burgandy Brown, her band and her management insisted upon dontaing the song for use in the film. For us it was a tremendous gift that spoke volumes about the artist and the truth behing her lyrics. We wish to thank everyone from the Burgandy Brown team for their wonderful song and their contrubution to this hopeful and worthy cause.

"Artist shares plains heritage"

Burgandy's performance was the headling act of the evening, providing music for the Eastern Colorado Roundup. Brown's contemporary style country music brought exciting and soulful sound to the evening's crowd. "She was very gracious in signing autographs and proved to be a down home young lady whose beauty is much more than skin deep," said one concert attendee. - Otis Telegraph

"Burgandy Brown in concert"

Burgandy writes all of her own music. She lives on the outskirts of Denver and attends the University of Colorado, where she is double majoring in Sociology and Politcal Science, and a minor in Sociology. Her music comes across like an old friend, a friend who's been there and understands, but don't be fooled by the fact that she has a message. This does not stop her from writing and performing upbeat danceable pieces that never fail to get a joint jumpin'. It's not often that the total package comes calling. Burgandy Brown's hybrid style of America's most loved genres of music will have you humming those mysterious melodies home from many a gig. - Akron News Reporter

Bio

“Everyone asks if Burgandy Brown is my real name and it just makes me chuckle,” says the Colorado native. “I love to tell people that my mom was just a crazy hippie, because that makes so much more sense than the actual reason: Tommy Bolin had a song called ‘Sweet Burgundy,’ and my mom loved him as a guitarist and she thought it was a beautiful name. Her favorite color is purple, but she didn’t want to name me Purple or Lavender, so she thought that Burgandy would fit.”
That 1976 nugget from the onetime Deep Purple and James Gang guitarist was the motivation for Burgandy’s given name and it also instantly pegs her onetime concert promoter mom as a rocker. “I always remember that she’d be jammin’ out to Aerosmith or Mötley Crüe or Alice In Chains, Def Leppard—so I grew up with a lot of that from her.” That rock & roll sensibility is certainly evident in the pair of songs that Brown has already recorded and released as a precursor to her still-being-recorded debut album, but no more so than the country influences she picked up from her grandparents. “My grandpa always listened to Elvis,” she says, “and my grandma loved Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Hank Williams, Jr.”
In “Basics,” her pedal-to-the-metal acoustic foot-stomper of a lead single, she embodies classic country-rock, especially in the full-throttle, quick-hit chorus: “Live more, laugh more, love more and hug more/That’s what we need to get back to the basics.” Brown takes it down a notch with “Risk,” giving it a musical feel and believe-in-yourself lyrical bent similar to the slow-burn side of ’90s rock stars Creed, with something of a ’70s Linda Ronstadt vocal quality. Both songs have been delivered on Two For The Road, which preceded Burgandy’s as-yet-untitled album by a few months. “We’re in the middle of recording,” Brown says of the sessions which began at the end of February 2007. A release date in May is the current plan. “We took our entire repertoire, which is probably over 50 songs, and picked everything that we thought was the best, even if the songs might not necessarily tie hand-in-hand with one another.”

Burgandy was born in Los Angeles, but a few days later her family was on the move to a farm east of Denver. It was there on the Eastern Plains of Colorado where she developed a love for the local sports teams—especially the Broncos—eclectic, eye-catching action movies with good cinematography and, of course, singing. “I started singing in elementary school and my grandma got me singing in church. I started singing solos when I was probably 9 or 10.” A couple of years at Denver’s School of the Arts and years of private lessons have helped Burgandy develop a rich, commanding voice. Brown figures she was in her early teens when music turned into something that she “could maybe do for the rest of my life,” and she wrote her first song in her freshman year of high school; that song, “Don’t Lie To Me,” was included on Eastern Plains, a four-song EP that she did in 2004. Around that time Burgandy joined a popular local band as a background singer, and experienced firsthand the thrill of performing at the breathtaking Red Rocks Amphitheatre; one of her dreams is to be able to sing her own songs there.
Now in her early 20s, Burgandy Brown is recording her first album even as she juggles a pair of part-time jobs and her senior year at Colorado University-Denver, where she’s majoring in Sociology. “Originally I was going to school for Political Science,” she says. “I was very wide-eyed and wanted to do so much good to change the world, but sometimes you just realize that you can only do so much, so I decided to change my major. I’m still getting my minor in Political Science, as well as Psychology. Ultimately, if things don’t pan out with my music I’ll probably go into marketing.” Understandably, that kind of a workload doesn’t leave much time for gigging, but after playing her first official show in May of 2006 Burgandy and her band played out all summer, including an opening slot for Reckless Kelly. And then there was the one-off performance in March 2007 when Denver’s new Country radio station, 92.5 The Wolf, asked her to be the evening’s entertainment at a party welcoming their new morning DJs.

While Burgandy is just getting started with her musical career, two of the three guys she makes music with began playing together when Brown was still in pigtails and preschool. “EJ and I met in 1989 and played in a band together for a couple of years,” guitarist Bryan Dennis explains, referring to drummer EJ Worden. In the ’90s they played the metal/rap of the day, released one CD as the Hippie Werewolves and toured the Western US sharing stages with No Doubt, Sublime, 311, Everclear and Corrosion Of Conformity. After years of living apart, Dennis and Worden reconnected when Burgandy invited them to back her up. “They were part of a previous band that my mom worked as a concert promoter—I actually went on tour with them whe
