"Burning Jet Black"

Burning Jet Black is not the new name of The Whiskey Saints. Burning Jet Black is a completely new music project by a 4 pieces band from Santa Monica, CA. Renovate or die? Not really. It is not even a renovated project. This is about the same people with new ideas and new inspirations. A change of direction because they really feel like doing it and the result is brilliant. Good bye The Whiskey Saints. Welcome Burning Jet Black. - Jungle Indie Rock

"Video: Burning Jet Black, “Magazine Girl”"

Burning Jet Black, formerly known as the Whiskey Saints, has teamed up with director Dan Mercaldi again for the "Magazine Girl" video. (For you history buffs: Mercaldi also directed the Whiskey Saints' "Before My Time" video and a short documentary about the band.) "Magazine Girl" is the first single from the band's new EP, The Modern Egotist.

I had a bit of dumb moment while watching this video for the first time. With the scantily-clad ladies (Jana Landis and Melanie Christine Specht) bound with tape and locked in cages, my initial thought was: "Hmm. There's a lot of misogynistic imagery here. (Subtext: I am a modern, enlightened male. I have a master's degree in sociology. I can't support something like this.) Oh! Wait a minute... That's the point."

Whoops.

Nice one, gentlemen. - Given and Taken in Ink

"Back To Basics with Burning Jet Black"

If you miss the good ole' days when a rock band consisted of the basic four - vox, guitar, drum, and bass without the extra baloney, then you absolutely have to check out the sexy, back-to-basics rock 'n' roll of Burning Jet Black. Like many other bands that try to revive rock's golden era with a few chords and nothing but the truth, BJB isn't exactly rehashing the sounds of your dad's old records. Their music actually veers more on the authentic but still rooted in old school with a modern twist.

Listen to the first single 'Magazine Girl' or the sexy swagger of 'Waiting For Tomorrow' off of debut EP 'The Modern Egotist', and fall in love with their legit guitar driven rock in the likes of the Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age, hell, even The Doors. Hailing from Los Angeles and previously from the band The Whiskey Saints, they decided to dump the old band name and adopt BJB in response to the new tunes. This easy-on-the-eyes and oh so good to your ears basic four is David Bloomfield (guitar), David Sparrow (vox/guitar), Jeff Bell (drums), and Rob Hughes (bass). Catch them at the Tin Can Ale House in San Diego August 4! - Lana Vadiyants - The Deli Magazine

"Spotlight: This Week’s 10 Most Notable Artists – 7/7/12"

Oh yes, can you say amaaaazzzinngg? These gritty, sexy boys give rock something to be proud of. Drums, bass, and grrrreat raw, manly vocals. They are self-released and oozing with authenticity. Move over Campbell’s, BJB is mmm…mmm good! They’re the Strokes meets the Foo Fighters after a few shots with the Rolling Stones. I dig ‘em like a grave keeper on a Sunday. The Modern Egotist is available for download over at bandcamp. Name your price and open your ears to one of the most tantalizing rock experiences of the year. - Music Under Fire

"New Faces: The Whiskey Saints"

"Hailing from Los Angeles, the Whiskey Saints strike the perfect balance between heartbreaking country melodies and meat-and-potatoes roots rock. Frontman David Sparrow croons with a full-bodied voice while his bandmates bridge the gap between L.A. alt-rock and Southern twang. Combined with the group's impressive lyrics, the Saints are starting to raise eyebrows in both rock and country circles." - TheBoot.com

"Pheaturing The Whiskey Saints"

"Okay, let's talk seriously... your album [West] fucking rocks!"

"Interview: The Whiskey Saints - Single Malt Sinners"

"With loud jangly guitars, raw harmonicas, and Sparrow's rich voice, the Whiskey Saints bring to life songs about love, loss, and the struggle of trying to make it in this town. With growing buzz that compares them to Ryan Adams and the Jayhawks after their debut release, West, in October, 2009 should prove to be a big year for the Whiskey Saints." - Laist.com

Bio

In the future, robots will perform all the music we listen to. Thumping bass and electronic blips will destroy all the pure emotion and visceral experience of the music we once knew. Meanwhile, in the here and now, Burning Jet Black is fighting hard against this automatic (re)/(de)volution. Fingers dancing on the fretboard, legs shaking on the kick drum...and sweat dripping off their brows, and the genuine heat of the crowd. This is music with a pulse...and the heart to keep it beating.

"While your friends are growing up and taking vows, you're still giving all your body will allow..." is the declaration that ignites Magazine Girl, their first single. An apt observation of the tragic heroine of the song and of Burning Jet Black themselves. The industry is that model past her prime, desperately whimpering for your attention, but not offering anything in return. This band, however, is offering something real, something that screams for you to be immersed in it, and they're on the fast ascent, keeping in mind: "We come apart, or we fall apart."

Assuming it would be possible to start over again, knowing all the things you know now, would be a no-brainer. The band functions with this hypothetical ethic; only using the experience of the past to look forward, instead of back. Comprised of David Sparrow (vox/guitar), David Bloomfield (guitars), Wes Hall (drums), and Rob Hughes (bass) you get a band that clicks. You'll hear it, it will sink down into the depths of your soul, and then you'll know. Burning Jet Black is alive and kicking and they will not quiet down.
