BURNING NOVEMBER/SILVERETTA Howlin Wolf - Thursday, February 6, 2003
Written by Amena Bloom

The Howlin Wolf is well known as being one of the premier places to hear live, local music in New Orleans. I was excited to be going there because during my history as a music lover, the venue has always presented great shows. Two bands were scheduled to open up for, Silveretta, the night’s headliner. I arrived just in time to witness the second opening band take the stage. The band was called Burning November, and proved to be comprised of five very talented musicians. The band consisted of Brad Wells – lead vocals, Daniel Laseter – bass guitar, Andy Grice – guitar, Jody Brady – guitar, and Jason Hinton – drums. These young men hailing from Laurel, Mississippi were not only very talented and professional, but they also possessed the charisma to woo the crowd with their rocking melodies. The lyrics were comprised of emotions that everyone can all relate to; while the guitars and drums produced a melody that everyone could rock to. They reminded me of the popular rock band Flickerstick, but had a unique sound that is usually not found in bands that have been together for such a short period of time. Their next performance will be March 8th at Hullabaloo 2003 located at the UNO Lakefront Arena, and are definitely worth giving a listen.
