"Flemington's 'Burning Red Sun' band to compete at Hard Rock Philadelphia"

Burning Red Sun, a rock band hailing from Flemington, has been chosen to compete in round one of the Hard Rock Rising contest at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 14, according to band leader Ken Lazorchak. Burning Red Sun were among the 12 bands selected by fans from dozens contending for the spot.

These 12 bands will vie for one of 10-semi-finalist spots from among each Hard Rock location participating in the contest. The top 10 world finalists will be judged by a panel of celebrities, and the winner will receive a 10 city world tour, a record contract with Hard Rock Records, and promotional services from ReverbNation, a co-sponsor of the contest.

"Getting this far in the contest is a huge honor to us because the competition was fierce but the voice of our fan base was loud," says Lazorchak. "We're very grateful to both the Hard Rock and ReverbNation for providing independent acts a chance to get noticed on the world stage. We're hoping to rock the roof off in Philadelphia and move on to the finals."

Burning Red Sun won with their single "What She Said" from their debut album "Living on the Edge of Time." Lazorchak, a founding member of the popular north Jersey rock band Laughen Bones, has played with members of renowned acts such as Dramarama and Southside Johnny, and has worked with blues legend Roy Buchanan and music producer John Rollo. Although he is no stranger to the indie music scene, Lazorchak is very enthusiastic about how exciting the opportunities afforded to independent artists by social media are.

"The music industry is a whole new world now," he says. "Contests like this show that the playing field is leveled and control is in the hands of the fans, which is where it belongs."

The winner for the Philadelphia area will be chosen by Monday, April 15, and voting for the global winner will commence on Monday, April 22. For more information on the contest, visit the Hard Rock Cafe website. To listen to "What She Said" or other tracks from "It's About Time," visit Burning Red Sun's ReverbNation site. - NJ.com

"NJ Alternative/Indie Band Gets Major Distribution Deal."

Burning Red Sun – a central NJ indie alternative band signs to JMD Records, a division of INGrooves/Universal Music Group. Burning Red Sun obtained the record deal due to the success of their debut lp Living on the Edge of Time. Ken Lazorchak, Mike Gomez and Jim Russo are Burning Red Sun and they are pleased to get a major distribution deal with one of the big record companies to extend their reach. Jersey indie alternative music is on the rise.

Burning Red Sun’s sound is unique and comes from a variety of influences, including Lazorchak’s friend blues legend Roy Buchanan, early heavy metal, alternative and music from the British Invasion. Their EP version of Living on the Edge of Time, will be distributed by JMD electronically on iTunes and Emusic.

We listened to music from the band in depth. We heard – What She Said, (not a Smiths remake) She’s the Devil’s Woman (guitar skills are evidenced here). Intro to Light - starts out with a classic 80's guitar power chord sound and fills out – also features a strong guitar solo – Unwind nice harmony with guitar and bass throughout the song theme. Psychedelic Relixx love the use of the crybaby on this one – a few other effects on guitar also used, heavy distortion – sensational guitar play – no lyrics.

We are definitely big fans of Burning Red Sun.

"JMD Records Announces Signing of Burning Red Sun"

Costa Mesa, California, February 15, 2011: JMD Records, a division of INGrooves/Universal Music Group, has just announced that they have signed Burning Red Sun, a New Jersey indie alt rock band, to a recording contract based on the success of their debut album, Living on the Edge of Time. “We’re really excited because JMD is part of the largest record label group in the world. Their reissue of our album in EP form will mean mass distribution,” says Ken “the Laser” Lazorchak, leader of Burning Red Sun and a veteran of the Jersey rock scene.

“Someone from JMD heard us on an indie music radio show, and thought our sound was solid,” explains Lazorchak. “Getting signed by a label like JMD that recognizes unique talent but has the reach of INGrooves/Universal is a dream come true.”

Burning Red Sun’s sound draws on a variety of influences, including Ken’s friend the blues legend Roy Buchanan, the British Invasion, early metal, new wave, desert rock, and alt rock. Lazorchak, who wrote all the songs on the debut record, states, “I like to experiment by mixing various rock styles and techniques to form my own unique, edgy sound. This keeps it interesting for me while still creating a distinctive playing style.”

The EP version of Living on the Edge of Time, which will be distributed by JMD electronically and be available on numerous music outlets, including iTunes and eMusic, is just the latest in a string of successes for Burning Red Sun. The band has built a significant following at local shows and gained wide acclaim for their selection as one of the top six finalists out of more than six thousand entries worldwide in the Hendrix Revolution contest. The winner has not yet been announced, but Burning Red Sun is a major contender in this competition, which will award one independent band or artist a chance to appear on a Jimi Hendrix tribute album along with such world-famous guitarists as Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana.

Burning Ren Sun plans to celebrate the signing with JMD by performing some gigs in the New Jersey area, and Lazorchak is already at work on songs for a second album. “This experience has been amazing from the start,” he explains. “Recording Living on the Edge of Time was a dream come true. To have JMD recognize us and get behind it is even better. It’s only inspired me to want to do more.”
