"DRUM - Album review"

Burn the City is the brain child of Blood Duster's Matt Collins and
Bodyjar's Tom Read. The Full line up on this their debut effort is Collins
on Guitar, Harish Chhabria on drums, Read on vocals/guitar and Grand Relf on
Bass/vocals. Its a little ripper, with everything from melodies to metal.

The melodious tracks are catchier than an STD and you'll end up itiching to
sing along. Take my own personal facourite, in fact my new favourite song
full stop. A Hero's Welcome. I defy you not to roar along to that chorus.
Word to the wise though; learn the words if you're going to do it in your
own car with the windows down at traffic lights. >From experience there's a
fair chance you'll attract a higher class of audience with the actual
lyrics., "... shed all acoun-ta-bi-ll-ty" as opposed to my wrongly
interpreted "...shan-na-a c**** is ill at ease".

Then you've got the darker, heavier stuff. Take tracks We Won't Listen or
Jerk On One End; the more sinister chords adding an enormous weight.
They've taken all the good stuff from the original pop-punk sound an have
given it a metal injection, just enough of a dose to kill the sickly
sweetness too many bands of this breed are infected by.

Bottom line, buy it or burn it, just get your grubby little hands all over
this one. It's Fu@king top shelf stuff and thats not in the news agents'
dodgy magaxine way.

"BURN THE CITY - Amplifier Bar - Saturday, October 7, 2006 with Change Of Face + The Critics"

Change Of Face and The Critics have both been reviewed in this here rag zillions of times in the past couple of years, so little can be said now that hasn’t already......??A band that haven’t been reviewed to death, mostly because they’ve never been here before, are Bodyjar/Blood Duster offshoot Burn The City.??Akin to Bodyjar more than Blood Duster, Burn The City play back-to-back catchy rock songs, that are built upon the same kind of solid pop foundations Bodyjar’s are. Tight and powerful, though very giddy and piss-takey, Burn The City are a full-throttle rock band made up of guys for whom the stage is a place to have fun. Although they are somewhat flawless performers, Burn The City know when to stop concentrating on playing their songs, and when to start performing them. Similarly, they know when to stop fucking around and actually get down to brass tacks. ??Playing material familiar only to those who frequent the band’s Myspace page (for whatever reason the band’s album is not effectively distributed in WA yet), Burn The City charged through their set with gusto. Current single, and definite signature tune for the moment, Reflex Action, inspired many punters to sing along (including a guest stage spot from Change Of Face’s Rowan Robinson) indicating that Burn The City have made an impact on Perth punters, even before getting here. ??Set up to establish the band, this initial tour may have stung Burn The City a tiny bit, as its members are used to playing to capacity crowds in their ‘day job’ bands, but their conduct on and off the stage will prove invaluable for future tours. Great guys as well as a great band, Burn The City made a lot of new friends and fans alike on this tour, and given better album distro and some frequent visits, it’s highly likely they will become one of the handful of touring bands Perth effectively adopts as home-towners. On a small scale, that is essentially what happened over this weekend, as yet another great band touched down in Perth, and became honorary citizens.

Bio

Spawned from the likes of BODYJAR, BLOOD DUSTER and 180 DISCHORD, BURN THE CITY have descended upon Australia like a plague, with a fist full of melodic rock to ram right down your throats.

Having gone their separate ways after their metal-core band 180 DISCHORD disbanded in the 90s, high school mates Tom Read and Matt Collins have been blazing their own trails of fire with Read playing guitar for Melbourne stalwarts BODYJAR and Collins providing metal licks for the consistently brutal BLOOD DUSTER. BURN THE CITY sees the two join forces yet again, along with hot new drummer Harish Chabria and former GRANDVILLE bassist Dan Hennessy to create their own unique blend of rock, punk and metal with a consistent melodic edge, reminiscent of Samiam, the Foo Fighters, and Aussie pub rock legends Midnight Oil!

Not being ones to do things by halves, the songwriting duo of Read and Collins hit the studio mid 2006 insistent upon bashing out a full-length album for their debut release. The result; 10 tracks of brutally honest, melodic rock, laden with vocal harmonies and plenty of guitar wankery to keep everyone happy.

BURN THE CITY’s self-titled debut album was released on the DSTAR Records label (Tiltmeter, Responder) 9th September 2006, with Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud picking up the lead single ‘Reflex Action’ in the first week, shortly followed by spins on Triple J’s Home and Hosed.

Being no stranger to touring, Read has taken his band on the road consistently since the album’s release, completing two national tours in the mere space of four months at the end of 2006 (Sep/Oct - Rock N’ Roll Inferno Tour – with Mere Theory, and the Nov/Dec - Assault Your Senses Tour – with label mates Tiltmeter, presented by BLUNT Magazine, Fist2Face, and Metric Clothing). Burn The City are currently on the road playing the east coast industry launches for their clothing sponsor Metric Clothing.

Bringing together experience, youthfulness and pure talent, BURN THE CITY is all about the SONGS. Backed by a committed management team, BURN THE CITY has the support to concentrate on what matters – GOOD QUALITY SONGS.

BURN THE CITY is here to stay.
