"The Indspire Awards"

David Boulanger is an unbelievable talent and visionary. His music and lyrics resonate at the deepest level. I've watched his career blossom for many years and after recently working with him on the Indspire Awards I can now say that he is not only a musical genius, he is Spiritual and Professional, a shining example of Possibility and Potential. - Jennifer Podemski

"Co-Producer of 'The Black List' BEDSIDE STUDIO"

Len Milne, Producer/Owner -BEDSIDE STUDIO, “To see Burnt-Project1 live , you will be seeing a Folk, Roots, Rock, Reggae, World Beat, Soul, Rap and Blues band all in one show. There is not one style of music that this band stays on but at the same time this band does not wander off into musical ego trips. For a band that sounds like a handful of styles, the one thing they do have down is the style of sounding good. This is a must see Winnipeg Act.” - Len Milne, Producer/Owner -BEDSIDE STUDIO

"BURNT-Project1 The Black List"

David McLeod NCI Executive Producer, National Aboriginal Countdown, “Burnt Project1 is led by David Boulanger who creates a driving soulful force with an incredibly talented ragtag crew of operatives. He leads the way to musical boundaries where funky/rock up-tempo movers are accentuated by a driving bass and Motown-era horns. He also skillfully slows it down to share deep personal lyrics that reference sweet-grass smoke and the ceremonial buffalo skulls that have grounded him as a First Nations artist. Burnt Project1 should be experienced live whenever possible.” - David McLeod NCI Executive Producer, National Aboriginal Countdown

"CBC Red Road Concert"

John Barnard, Director, ‘The Sheepdogs Have At It’ Farpoint Films- “I first encountered Burnt Project 1 while making a concert film for CBC, in which David and his band were featured artists. That was several years ago and their music has never left me. Those songs are now etched in my mind like a piece of history. It’s that epic. I’ve always thought it inappropriate for someone to describe an artist’s “sound”. I’m not equipped to use such language. But I will say that this music evokes imagery in my mind in ways most songs never do. This music tells remarkable stories and visits emotional places that we all need to visit.” - John Barnard, Director, ‘The Sheepdogs Have At It’ Farpoint Films, CBC Red Road Concert

Bio

Gwiiwzens Dewe’igan (alias) David Dorian Boulanger was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is a Peguis, Manitoba band member; Turtle Island is his home. Gwiiwzens received the honor of his spirit name and clan from the late elder/spiritual leader Mary Thomas of Peguis, Manitoba in 1990. The Dwewe’igan (drum) and Shiishiigan (rattle) play an enormous role in his life, ceremony and Art-forms. The artist Gwiiwzens’ favorite genres are the musical and visual kinds. He has written/illustrated three children’s books geared toward literacy and is currently creating his first independent book project. In 2001 he created and established BURNT-Project1, which led him to two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Album Design, The CBC Galaxy Rising Star Award, NCI Album of The Year Award, 2005 JUNO Award and Western Canadian Music Award for Outstanding Aboriginal Recordings of the year. Gwiiwzens composed the music for award winning radio program CBC’s Re-Vision Quest.
His feathers are out and their moccasins are tied tight, “’The Black List’ is a ceremony in its self. BURNT-Project1 celebrates and believes that there is no institution higher or greater than Spirit. There has never existed a place in the physical world or memories lost within an oppressed mind that could contain or erase anybodies Spirit. We all have this in our blood, it is the Earth and it has always been the fabric of mankind, as it binds us together.” Gwiiwzens Dewe’igan
BURNT-Project 1 has established its heart-beat in the music community, creating a cultural mosaic of music with its two previous albums and now starts a new chapter blending digital samples and loops/turn-tables, worldly percussion with big band horn sections, Tribal/Reggae grooves. The Debut Independent Album “The Black List,” Gwiiwzens developed over the period of eight years and recorded it during three. “Welcome everybody to this event, things are about to electrify, the ghosts in the back are gettn’ down, so EVERYONE be good this time!” suggests Gwiiwzens‘. Hearty Lyrics + Honest Hearts + Big Band Horn Sections + Turn Tables + African/Latin/Tribal beats = THE BLACK LIST’S spirit dance! Nagamo (SING)!
