Biography

Burnt Rose has been changing again. Our roots have come to haunt us and there is no telling what will come out. Currently releasing a mainly acoustic CD entitled "10 Things...you can do without your drummer" with Debi Ferguson (guitar, vocals, harmonica & mandolin), John McCullough (guitars and vocals) and Phil Kott (guitars, bass, banjo and vocals). One track features Gary Carol on "squeezebox". This album has a mostly country/bluegrass feel. There will be two more CD releases this year in other genres as we mix and master the recordings done over the past two years.

Whatcha Doin'

Written By: Ferguson/McCullough/Kott

Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun comes up
Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun comes up
Thought I heard you callin from the porch swing
Whatcha doin tuggin at my heart strings
Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun comes up

Whatcha doin on my mind in the middle of the day
whatcha doin on my mind in the middle of the day
Every page takes a second look
I can't seem to get through this book, no
Whatcha doin on my mind in the middle of the day

Thought I had my life's wants in line
Now I find you walkin through my mind
I don't pretend to know the score
All I know is I want more

Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun goes down
Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun goes down
From across the room you waved goodbye
My heart jumped and I asked why
Whatcha doin on my mind when the sun goes down

Thought I had my life's wants in line
Now I find you walkin through my mind
I don't pretend to know the score
All I know is I want more

Whatcha doin on my mind when I lay me down
Whatcha doin on my mind when I lay me down
Whatcha doin tuggin at my heart strings
Is this that so called love thing
Whatcha doin on my mind when I lay me down
Whatcha doin on my mind
Whatcha doin on my mind
Whatcha doin on my mind when I lay me down.

Lionel Plum

Written By: McCullough/Ferguson/Kott

Lionel Plum was a hard workin man
In the traditional Maritime way
He had his own boat, wore an oil-skin coat and he fished the Grand Banks every day
He'd sing to his men whilethey worked in the sun, Songs of Maritime life. Songs of the sea, songs of the land and things men do with their wives

He'd sing about sailors and fishermen too
And the trouble they'd get into on land
Dancin' and boozin' and gamblin' and losin' and girls diggin clams in the sand
Some songs were happy and some songs were sad
Some of his songs were just dumb
But the men on his boat loved to hear every note of the songs of Lionel Plum

After 70 years and one day of tears, they laid the old skipper to rest
The men of his crew, as his widow knew too, that the world had lost one of its best
But the men of the sea know a spirit thats free doesn't fade like paint in the sun
When the wind hits a lull or a wave smacks the hull, ya hear the songs of Lionel Plum.

The End

Written By: McCullough/Ferguson/Kott

Nine o'clock at night a new star had been spotted
In the sky, in the sky, in the sky
By ten o'clock that night it had grown twice in size
Twice in size, twice in size, twice in size
By eleven p.m. it was as big as the sun
It was starting to sink in that the race had been run
We didn't even make it up to half past eleven
When we were shakin hands with each other up in heaven
Yeah the world was blown away in the blink of an eye
It was gone, it was gone, it was gone

The teachers and the preachers probablynever meant to lie but they were wrong they were wrong they were wrong
Not even cosmic consciousness, I mean everything was gone
It was gone, it was gone, it was gone
No more saints, no more sinners, no more Christians or Jews,
No more Muslims, no more Hindus, Inca sun-worshippers too
There was no private club there were no chosen few
I mean everything was gone baby, even me and you
Yeah the world was blown away in the blink of an eye
It was gone, it was gone, it was gone!
