Bio
Bus-ta-groove is a multicultural, educational and multimedia adventure. Slapstick comedy will keep the kids laughing and irresistibly catchy songs build positive thinking, self-esteem and decision making skills. The show is designed to make children laugh, love their life and to be enriched by music, drama, dance, play and friendship. And parents will dig the music too!
Creator Leah Thomas (‘La La Leah’) has been a professional singer and actor for nine years, working in New York, Sydney and Melbourne. Leah has also appeared on ABC Television’s Playschool. Also an educator, Leah brings her energetic style to music and drama lessons at Sydney schools including the Australian Institute for Performing Arts.
“Children grow up fast these days and are drawn to Top 40 music at a much earlier age. I wanted to create an uber-cool show that gives them the hip music they love but replaces adult references with comedy and positive messages to encourage the development of coping skills and self esteem,” says Leah.
“Of course, kids also love funny characters so Bus-ta-groove is populated with a diverse cast of comical personalities,’ she says.
Musician and composer John Simmons is the man behind the music in the groovy Bus-ta-groove show. Also a filmmaker and multimedia artist, Simmons has developed and produced two sell-out shows at the Sydney Opera House, one of which he went on to perform in Paris. John won the Australian Guild of Screen Composers’ JD Music Award in 2002. He brings his unique talent set to co-write with Leah the music that is the all-important foundation of Bus-ta-groove. John and Leah are working together on further projects for film and television in Australia, the United States and Europe.
