Butch Taylor will knock your socks off. No stranger to the music biz, Taylor has quite a repertoire - from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and the Midnight Special to the Bottom Line and Carnegie Hall and a bunch of stuff in-between. Like what? Like touring and recording with artists on RCA, Arista, and Epic; recording music for film and video; like securing a gig in the semi-final competition for a slot on-stage at the 1998 Guiness Fleadh ... BUTCH TAYLOR & the PENETRATORS are a rock blues outfit from southern CT. I caught the band recently and they were getting the blues through to an attentive crowd at Cafe 9. ...They draw on some Willie Dixon and Robert Johnson material and also get funky with some Hendrix and SRV. One thing I really liked about them is when they played Willie Dixon or Muddy they didn't try to "rock it up". They laid down a great blues groove, and Butch is a soulful singer. Too many bands these days just yell out the vocals and go on a guitar extravaganza, not Butch. He wasn't afraid to bring the band way down and sing a great soul ballad. The flip side to this high energy band is the Hendrix tunes and even some Sly & the Family Stone grooves. Tasty wah wah on Little Wing and some poppin' fresh funk bottom by Wendy on bass made this a versatile night of blues rock that had purists and rock fans calling for more. The opening acoustical guitar work on "Conjure Man" blew me away. I could tell that I was in for a ride and I took one. Why hasn't the public been notified that this kind of Rock and Roll is available for every music lover? I can't use the word blues for any of this band's fine music because it doesn't fit into the traditional category of blues. Basically, there is much more energy. There is a great blend of keyboards and guitar that allows for ample space to build power for the listener. Bio
Butch Taylor & the Penetrators is a hard hitting funky blues-rock horn band. Their originals are inspired from the traditional blues of Freddie King and Willie Dixon, the psychedelic sounds of Hendrix and Cream, and the deep funk of Sly & the Family Stone and Isley Brothers.
In 1998 they were semi-finalists in the Guinness Fleadh Unsigned Band Competition, and in 2000 they were finalists in the National Independent Music Awards (sponsored by Musician’s Atlas).
Butch Taylor is a published songwriter and has played in numerous road and local bands as well as recorded and composed music for videos and film. He has toured and recorded with artists on RCA, Arista, and Epic Records playing backup guitar for Vicki Sue Robinson, James Ingram, Denise Williams, Patty Austin, and Debra Cox. Butch has performed both nationally and internationally and appeared on major television shows such as Don Kirchner’s Rock Concert, the Midnight Special, and the Merv Griffin Show. He has performed at major clubs and arenas around the country such as the Starwood in L.A., the Boarding House in San Francisco, and the Bottom Line, the Felt Forum, and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
