Bio

Jazz and Delta Blues. Modern R&B and 70’s Funk. Rock and Reggae. Labels. Just like Alternative Soul, all buzz words created to describe the once indescribable. On a rare occasion music emerges from an artist that is a break from convention to create its own identity, challenging all genres and whatever label they have been given.
B. Wilks is that artist and Sonically Inviting is the start of something new.

The newly completed album, Sonically Inviting is a summary of talent that rivals any major recording project and is headed by B.Wilks who wrote and produced the effort. Here he has teamed up with a star studded ensemble of musicians including: Steve Williams: drums (Digable Planets, David Byrne), Paul Frazier: bass (Sade, Chic), Pete Levin: keys (David Sanborn, Melvin Kent), Curtis Dean (legendary NYC blues/jazz player, Basic Blue), Mike Bona: Mastering Engineer (Mariah Carey, Seal, Nas, Cheryl Crowe, Busta Rhymes) and Evan Crown: Head Mixing Engineer (James Brown, Ben Harper). Under the direction of Wilks & Joe Muller (Co-Producer), a full-length masterpiece was cultivated. Proudly, early album reviews prove Sonically Inviting continues to establish Wilks as an undeniable musician.

A truly original and diverse talent that has carved out his own musical niche, Wilks has remained consistently unique while presenting a fresh style with a distinct sound. With influences ranging from B.B. King, Sting, George Clinton, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman and Eric Clapton, Wilks paints a collage of sound that brings back memories of college house parties, that after hours spot, and 2 AM trips to the grocery store.

Sonically Inviting echoes a life filtered through a tried set of eyes and ears. From playing gigs in places as small as apartments to venues as large as civic arenas, Wilks has deservingly earned a reputation as a tremendous live act through paying his dues every step of the way. At times he has lived from day to day, moving from one motel to the next, to simply being homeless. Through it all, he has remained steadfast in letting the world hear his own uncompromised artistic vision.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, with strong family ties in the south, he was exposed to all types of music ranging from Rap, Country, Gospel and Alternative. With an uncanny ear for sound, and without any formal training, Wilks picked up the guitar, drums and piano. His music continues in this tradition of open mindedness. Always changing and absorbing musical genres, Wilks remains a true musical journeyman.

B.Wilks is a credited co-writer and guitar player on the nationally released hit single "Nasty Grind" off Adina Howard's album, The Second Coming. In addition, B.Wilks has also worked with artists and producers such as Angelo Ray (AMR Music), Rashad (Fo'Reel/EM Ink) who currently has the single "Sweet Misery" ft. Jadakiss and Sheek Looch. B.Wilks has also worked with Kirk Franklin as well as many others.
